Bulldogs Take Second in C-3 District Wrestling Tourney

Osceola Bulldogs finish as runners up with six wrestlers advancing to the State Tournament at Lincoln. Ray Johnson 98 pounds and Rick Johnson heavyweight lead with first and first place respectively, while Dale Runquist 119 Tracy Day 126 Bill Day 145 Greg Clifford 155 and Corky Cliffords 112 also reach states. The event featured 14 teams and Fairfield-Sandy Creek won with 159 points. Osceola 152.

In Polk, 6-6 235 pound Tom Carlstrom accepted a Nebraska athletic scholarship Wednesday, becoming the 12th in-state recruit to sign with NU. He had also been courted by Kansas State, with NU offer arriving just before KU’s contact. Carlstrom earned all-state honors in Class D as a defensive tackle and on offense, continuing a family legacy of athletic awards in Polk.

Wagners celebrate 71st wedding anniversary in Polk County

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wagner marked 71 years of marriage with a February 13 dinner at the Good Samaritan Center attended by immediate family. He, 94, retired from farming. she, 91, lives at the Center. Married February 13, 1905 in Shelby, they reside in Polk County with three children, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Post Office Holiday Schedule for Washington's Birthday

The Osceola post office will run a holiday schedule on Monday February 21 in observance of Washington's Birthday. No rural delivery. Special delivery and lock box service available. Star route service follows regular schedule with metro pickup on return trip in the afternoon.
