The Polk County corn show scheduled for February 27 at the Osceola Court House offers merchandise prizes for white and yellow corn entries. Entries close at 1 PM Monday with program to follow at 2 PM. A 10 percent discount on cash sales will be given to farmers entering corn on February 25 or 27.

Funeral services for S B Samuelson were conducted Monday from the home and the First Baptist at York. Born in Sweden, he immigrated with his wife and son, lived in Stromsburg, then Kinus, later York for about twenty years. He died Friday night at 74 after a broken hip from a fall. Survived by wife Sophia, two sons Carl of Osceola and Son of Chicago, and daughter Viola a teacher in Council Bluffs. Interment in Stromsburg Cemetery.

About 25 friends and relatives visited L R Meacham and Geortre Heinemeyer's home for Geortre's birthday with dominoes and cheerers and lunch.
Rev Pengely spoke on World War at the Social Center Sohor Monday morning. Children presented Lincoln’s birthday program. Weather has shown slight improvement this week. Many neighbors lost potatoes in below zero weather last week. Mrs Louis Scucct returned from Omaha hospital and is improved. Mr and Mrs Jack Moberg of Stromsvurz visited Mrs William Hanshew. Mr and Mrs Leslie Hanshew and Verda Mae of Osceola called in the afternoon. Dp Jacobson family of Stroms ers were guests at Henry Johnson’s home. Victor Cerny John Cernny and Dick Merrick completed Knighthood of Youth Castles and advanced to Herald. Shirley Richmond returned to school after a month’s absence due to whooping cough.
A Monday evening meeting drew several farmers to Ellers Hall in Ellers. another Farmers Holiday session is planned for Wednesday February 22. Nearby visits include Miss Emma Nebosis with Miss Hilda Nebosis in Columbus and gathering at the Reyrossnicklaus home with Mr and Mrs Frank Tschauner.
Shelby residents hosted and visited relatives from Gretna Omaha and Osceola this week. Lynn Snider from Cheyenne arrived for a week with Mrs. J L Peterson. Dorcas Society events were hosted by Mrs Arthur Buchholz and Mrs J W Stiversin. A new Omaha Cold Storage produce station will operate in the former Coffee Shop space with Oscar and Carl Weiser in charge.
Miss Mary Burke hosted a Valentine party for the Victor grade room on Tuesday afternoon with cake and Jello served after games. The Victor Club notes meetings, weather delays, and local visits as residents share community activities and school gatherings.
Osceola hosted 96 guests from the Osceola and Stromsburg fire departments at the Hotel Rapp as thanks for preventing a disaster. Mayors Pierson and Lrrner, Fire Chiefs Cummings and Parris, and club leaders Hastings and Minnick spoke. The event, ending with a Rivoli Theatre visit, strengthened ties between Polk County towns.
The Lutheran church announces a Lutheran League gathering at 8 p m Thursday evening at the Andrew Peterson home with the Albin Anderson family assisting. Sunday features Church School at 10 a m English Worship at 11 a m and Vespers at 7 30 p m with Rev Victor Swanson from the North Arc Mission Wheel speaking on foreign missions. An offering will be received for Rev Swanson. On Thursday February 28 Harmony Society will meet at the church for a party arranged by the Place Committee.
Mrs. John Kepner dies at 86 after years of invalid status following hip fractures. She moved from Osceola to Arcadia, Nebraska, with family, was active in Eastern Star, church work, and survived by son Samira Kepner, granddaughter Evelyn DeLay, great granddaughter Irene DeLay, and sisters Anna Randolph, Fiera Allen, Sadie Gray. Funeral plans pending local notices.
The Ladies Aid Society meeting was postponed due to cold weather. A social gathering is planned at the Hall on February 4 to honor January February anniversaries with a program and social time. Music helpers are invited to meet at the parsonage on Tuesday evening for practice. Regular services occur Sunday at both churches with the Valley Church event titled Things That Abile. Pastor Er. Br Maxcy extends the invitation.
Governor Bryan endorses a county conciliation board to address mortgage indebtedness. The board, selected by the state board, meets at the courthouse at 1:30 PM on Saturday Feb 18, 1938 to organize. Members include August P Angerson Osceola Warbert Flodman Stromsbureg Glen Chase Shelby Oscar Strand Potic.
Mrs Clinton DeLand 66 a Nebraska resident since 1888 died early Monday at the home of daughter Mrs Louis A Webster in Lincoln. She came from Hifuels in a covered wagon settled near Osceola then moved to Lincoln eighteen years ago. Survived by four daughters two brothers three grandchildren. Funeral services held yesterday at Wadlow's Chapel Lincoln with interment at Osceola Cemetery.
Dale Fahnestock returns to Lincoln after a weekend with the Wrights. Martha Smith visits Lincoln relatives. Elijah Gove Chapter D.A.R. holds a luncheon with delegates to national and state conventions. Ed Lauerman family to move from Fusby property to A. L. Peterson land north of Stromsburg. A V Kielson and son visit Gothenburg. Stromsburg High hosts Polk County Basketball Tournament this week as the quartet eyes a county title.
West Side Axel Fredrickson and daughter Myra Meacham work as business car'ers in Seward Tuesday. Iish Prairie Alumni Bart met at the school house last Monday evening. A ban meet is planned for Saturday at 7 P M in the school auditorium with a 15 cent per place charge. Adolph Forss lost his water supply building to a fire last Saturday morning while thawing pipes. Neighbors helped keep the fire from reaching the barn. Mr and Mrs Walter Jones hosted the High Prairie Class of 1930 on a party Saturday night for Mr and Mrs Wesley Swedenburg and Mr and Mrs Ralph Rhodes. Swede Home Club held a quilting bee at Sander Petersens Tuesday afternoon. Born to Mr and Mrs Herbert Anderson a boy on Sunday Feb 12. Ralph Newman visited friends in Shenandoah Saturday and Sunday. Walter Fredrickson, visiting his grandmother in Omaha, returned home Monday. Clarence Anderson spent Sunday with brother Lester in Lincoln. Miss Eisie Olson visiting Gothard Melsom home in York this week.

Dist 72 taxpayers met to discuss reducing district expenses. Land valuations, mill levy, teacher salaries, and taxes discussed. Will Wurtz and Herbert Wiardld visited aunt in Cairn. Lyman Lampshire family visited John Cochagan home. Lawrence Nelson and Glen Hill went to Sioux City on business. Knerr moving to new home near Chappell. Polk Women’s Club to entertain Stromsburg Women’s Club next Tuesday at M E Church. Will visit Haxton, Colo.,relatives. Hadkins of Cedar Rapids visited Irvin Halm.
