Tom Mullin’s six year old cocker spaniel Paddy was left with a Grand Island veterinarian on December 19 to be rehomed. The dog traveled back to Albion by January 31, muddy and exhausted, suggesting a 66 mile journey from Grand Island.
Between 30 and 40 tires were punctured Sunday evening by vandals in Lexington. Seven cars on the south side of the courthouse were targeted, with punctures above the rim in the sidewall. The spree also touched a service station and private cars, per the Lexington police report.

More than 150 people gathered at the state capitol in Lincoln to oppose a highway department plan to limit truck loads during breakup season. State Engineer Ross said the proposal remains tentative, proposing 14 000 pounds for single wheel trucks and 24 000 for tandems from February through April.
The Ulysses community reports successful fundraising totaling 5500 dollars to purchase a building for a Community Building. The Community Club board aims to finish remodeling and add a kitchen and restrooms in the new facility. Construction proceeds to expand Farmers Co op Grain at Bellwood adding 340000 bushels to 320000 bushel capacity at a cost of 132700 dollars.

Rural Districts 49 and 47 enjoyed a Monday roller skating party in Havens with a pleasant evening. The PTA met on Tuesday with pupils presenting class work and Mrs. Ted Johnson delivering an article on listening to your child while she and others served lunch.
Dr and Mrs C M Barker and baby of Seward and Mr and Mrs C A Nahrstedt of Madison were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Dale Nahrstedt. The visit brought together two families from Nebraska and Wisconsin for a casual in town gathering.

Mrs Roy Emmons aged 58 died Tuesday at her Osceola area home after months of illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at the Osceola Methodist Church with burial in Osceola cemetery. Surviving are her husband, a daughter Mrs Treimia Shenk of Bellflower California, and two sons Floyd and Clair, both of Osceola.
Mr and Mrs Ewart Hageman of Ithaca announce the engagement of their daughter Annette of Lincoln to Mauritz D Swanson of Osceola son of Mr and Mrs Mauritz A Swanson. Swanson attends the University of Nebraska. The wedding is set for May 2 at the Ithaca Evangelical Church.

Observers warn that prolonged warmth last two weeks has encouraged wheat growth. Farmers fear a sharp cold snap could injure or kill exposed crops after a mild spell with temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s. Some say wheat must face a freeze to reach a mature crop.
Norman Fintel was appointed by the city council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of M. A. Mills Jr. He has assumed the position and will hear all traffic cases for Osceola.
