Jurors Award $25,000 in Bernt Shelby Fire Case
After about eight hours of deliberation an eleven man jury in district court awarded Julius Bernt of Shelby $25,000 in damages against Wise Service Co. of Grand Island for a 1945 fire at his cafe and filling station. Molden, a soldier, was also a defendant. his car hit a stop sign and collided with a transport owned by Wise Service Co., causing gasoline to ignite. The Bernt property was a total loss. Judge Lightner presided in Columbus. testimony spanned most of the week amid a blizzard that delayed one juror.

Osceola Veteran Reunited With Welsh Family Trip
Rex Dunn traveled to Omaha this week to meet his wife Mrs Dunn and their two daughters Jenetta four and Patricia nine months who arrived in New York from South Wales by boat. Patricia has never met her father who served in the U S Army in that theater and returned to the states last October. The Dunns plan to live on the Fred Dunn farm north of Osceola while Patricia moves to town to reside with her grandparents Mr and Mrs James Dunn.

Growing interest in Soil Conservation Program gains momentum
The district reports 160 applications for assistance since formation two years ago. In the last year 1 415 acres of contour planting 4 8 miles of terraces 18 4 acres of grassed waterways 339 acres leveled for irrigation 2 soil saving dams 7 acres of windbreaks were planted and irrigation systems were installed or improved. Demonstrations attracted over 100 farmers. District Supervisors purchased a tractor scraper disc terracer and packer for cooperative use.
WSCS Plan Meeting At Hurd Home
The WSCS will meet February 13 at the home of Mrs. J. L. Hurd with Mrs. George Steever as hostess. Liberty Local No. 573 postponed its February meeting to February 21. Several local residents were noted with visits and family celebrations including Mickey Van Dorn’s birthday and other social visits across Osceola and surrounding towns.

Blizzard of 47 Deluged County Roads With Deep Drifts
The storm began as sleet last Wednesday and intensified into a full blizzard by Friday morning. Winds piled snow into large drifts across east and west roads, leaving only eight inches on the ground but much of it blown into banks. Temperatures stayed below freezing through the weekend, with brief easing Sunday, and Monday brought more cold and drifting on secondary routes.
