Polk County Basketball Tournament Sets Two-Day Schedule
The Polk County tournament runs February 12 13 at Osceola gym with first and Reserve teams from Osceola Stromsburg Polk Shelby. Thursday starts at 4 PM with Osceola Stromsburg reserves, then Polk Shelby reserves, Osceola Polk first teams, Stromsburg Shelby first teams. Friday finals begin 7 30 PM with reserves final and championship game at 9 PM. Officials are Donohoe Yonkin and Specce of York. Admission 25 and 60 cents tax included.

Grade basketball team enjoys strong start this season
The little publicized grade basketball team, coached by Bert Gissler, has won four of five games in the Goldenrod Conference. They beat Genoa twice 29 24 and 18 12 and Stromsburg 19 18 while Shelby 21 14, and lost to Silver Creek 22 30. Standouts include Walgreen Anderson Jean Brazee Snodgrass Johnson Eklund Alt Miller Schott with Walgreen averaging 12 points per game. Manager is Bob Peterson. A Shelby game is due Wednesday, Polk visit Monday, and Polk hosts a Polk tournament March 15 17 and 19.

Osceola Bulldogs Drop Two Home Court Games
Osceola lost to Gresham by 23-22 on Thursday as late desperate shots sealed the win for Gresham. Silver Creek topped Osceola 25-21 Tuesday, with a strong first quarter gave them the early lead. The Reserves won their two games against both visiting opponents, 35-26 over Gresham and 22-10 over Silver Creek.

Boy Scout Week Observed by Local Troop 12
The 38th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America is observed February 6 through 12. Polk County Extension Club Meeting Highlights 1947
The Polk County Council of Home Extension Clubs met January 26 in Osceola with 22 attendees despite cold weather. Mrs Geo Steever led the meeting in Mrs Alvin Burke’s absence and plans for the year were set. A candle lighting service honored retiring officers followed by tea hosted by the Osceola Project Club. The group then visited the Yard Beautification meeting and Mrs Fred Bond’s home. Leaders training sessions occurred January 28 and 30 in Lincoln, with 278 leaders attending and 57 Nebraska University instructors volunteering. A banquet closed the week, with speeches by L I Frisbie and Chancellor Gustavson. 4-H pins recognized long service, and Nebraska’s 4-H program totals were cited: 2009 clubs, 3000 leaders, 17,000 members, 21,000 projects, urging Polk County to grow these numbers.

Deputy Internal Revenue staff will be at the Polk County Courthouse Osceola on February 18 and 19 to offer free advice from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone with 1947 income of 500 dollars or more must file using a withholding statement or Form 1040.
