The St Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola will hold the sixth annual Smorgasbord at the High School Auditorium on Wednesday February 9 with plans to feed about 1000 people. Service starts 5 15 p m in groups by ticket numbers and a separate seconds table keeps lines moving. Swedish dishes again headline the menu and advance tickets are available through church members. Ella Anderson leads questions and the church cookbook will be sold at the event.

Mr and Mrs S T Crouse learned of the sudden death of C A Frazier at Grinnell Iowa He was about 65 and had lived in Osceola for over a decade while with Farmers State Bank The family moved to Grinnell twenty years ago He is survived by his widow and three daughters Funeral services were held in Grinnell on Tuesday February 1 with interment there.

County BB Tourney Gets Under Way
The Shelby and Polk Reserves opened the county basketball tournament on Wednesday afternoon followed by Osceola versus Stromsburg Reserves. Wednesday evening featured Varsity games Osceola against Stromsburg and Polk against Shelby. Championships for both Reserves and Varsity will be held Thursday evening at Osceola high school auditorium. Record to publish results next week.

Mother of Jim Fredin Buried in South Dakota
Mrs. Oliver A. Fredin, 51, died suddenly in Des Moines on January 24. Funeral was in Watertown, South Dakota, with husband Jim Fredin of Osceola and Don Fredin at home. Surviving are two sons, her mother, two brothers, and three grandchildren Carolyn, Janet and Jerry Fredin. The family returned to Osceola while the Fredin children stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Svoboda.

District 37 Sleigh Ride and Roller Skate Party

Plans For NU Band Concert Here This Spring
Osceola schools music instructor Duane Johnson reports plans are nearly ready for the University of Nebraska Concert Band to appear at the school auditorium on March 16. The Chamber of Commerce backs the tour with three other towns to follow before returning to Lincoln. A guaranteed pay and ticket prices of 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for children are proposed, with any profit to go to the school band treasury.

March of Dimes Drive Nets $80 From Rabbit Feed
Osceola residents joined East Side Recreation to raise 80 dollars at a Monday rabbit feed hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bojanski. About 60 rabbits, 10 gallons of potato salad and eight gallons of baked beans and sides were served. Proceeds benefited the local March of Dimes campaign and were given to the Osceola Firemen who organized the drive.

Softball League Plans Move Forward After Osceola Meet

Polk County's National Farm Loan Association hosted 150 farmers at a free turkey dinner in Osceola High School Auditorium. At the 11 o'clock session Ernest Lees and Guildford Bryan were re elected to three year terms. Oliver Seaberg filled an unexpired term and Hilbert Buchta was elected for two years. The association posted dividends of 1996.43 and earnings of 143.47 from prior years. Twenty six loans totaling 149000 were closed, up from ten the year before. Polk county residents report a mostly typical January with 20 days above freezing and the warmest day at 57 on January 2. The coldest day reached 20 degrees on the 19th, and lows plunged to nine below on the 27th, with two subzero days on the 24th and 28th.
