A wave of property destruction hits Osceola over two weeks including stop sign damage gunfire at a bin site and a shot gas leak near a farm home. Residents fear rising lawlessness as a Letter to the Editor discusses neighborhood disturbances and safety concerns.
The Nebraska Educational Television Network will broadcast the 85th legislature opening day ceremonies on January 5 starting at 10 a.m. A 90 minute synopsis airs at 10:30 p.m. Commentators Dr. Jack Rodgers and Dr. Robert Sittig join host Joel Fowler for opening day coverage and daily evening highlights at 10:30 p.m. for the session duration.

The 10th Northeast Central Nebraska Farm Exposition will run January 11 and 12, 1977 in Columbus with irrigation and water management as the educational focus. University of Nebraska Extension specialists host sessions daily at noon and afternoon programs feature irrigation topics and a Nebraska panel of irrigators. The two day event, free to attend, runs 10 am to 5 pm at Platte County Agriculture Park with hourly door prizes and a tractor radio. Over 90 exhibitors booked space, with several recognizing a decade of participation.
The Game and Parks Commission asks the Public Works Committee to adopt water plan recommendations and Platte Level B study. Proposals include recognizing groundwater and surface water interdependence, granting fish wildlife and recreation a beneficial use, and creating ecological planning with increased public input to limit environmental damage.
Osceola junior high wrestling team lost to Stromsburg 39 28 on December 16, with multiple close bouts. Dean Ranquist Jeff Wheeler Jeff Gillett and others suffered decisions or pins as Stromsburg built the final margin.
