Ocoma Broiler farm at Palmer in Merrick county will hatch and raise birds for processing. The plant capacity reaches 72,000 chickens with weekly shipments of 6,000 birds to a processing plant in Central City.
Mrs. Laura Moorhead sold her interest in the Burg Theater at Stromsburg to her former partner Earl Barclay Stromsburg Headlight reports.
Janet Glock, daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Glock of Rising City, a Nebraska University sophomore and music major, received a certificate for outstanding Coed Counselor work and was named one of 12 candidates for Cornhusker Beauty Queen in the City Banner.
Mr and Mrs. R H Fanders gain local fame with a full length illustrated feature in the January issue of Profitable Hobbies. The article titled Tots Rate Tops as Camera Subjects shows how the couple profits by photographing children in Schuyler and Colfax County Cali.
Donovan Crandell of Central City sings with the University of Nebraska Madrigal Singers. Twenty students comprise the Madrigal Singers Central City Ne trattamento non pareil and will present a nationwide broadcast from Lincoln on Friday.
Progress on the Farwell school project sees grade school pupils and their teacher relocated to new quarters last week. The high school plans to move in this week according to the St Paul Phonograph.
Tentative plans emerged this week to form a Military Order of the World Wars chapter in North Platte or Lincoln County. The organization currently has two chapters in Nebraska at Omaha and Lincoln, with officers in Lincoln County Tribune noting the potential local setup.
Work crews pulled pipe from the Cedar Valley No 1 test well at 3250 feet and transported it to Dalton for another test. Promoters remain confident oil lies in Wheeler county though no future plans have been announced.
John A. Friesen a 20 year old Henderson farmer lost his right forearm after his hand and arm were mangled in a hammermill feed grinder on Wednesday. He was taken to Henderson hospital where doctors performed an amputation at mid forearm. In a separate note Robert Scheideman of Sutton fired at a rabbit while hunting, mistakenly hitting his dog Shep, a three year old hound, killing it.
News notes a mild Christmas with fifty degree daytime warmth that vanished as a sharp drop hit overnight. Temperatures fell to two degrees above freezing by the 26th and stayed near that level the next morning. A trace of snow arrived Monday night but failed to cover the ground.

The Osceola Chamber of Commerce judging panel named winners for the community home lighting contest last Thursday night. First prize went to W. W. Norton, second to Joe Schott, and third to John Craven with $6, $4, and $3 awards. Additional town recipients earning $1 included Don Byers, Dr. H. S. Eklund, Dwight Bush, Dr. C. R. Peterson, M. R. Anderson, and Rev. J. H. Howe.
The community mourns the death of Mrs. I. J. Merrick who died early Sunday after attending to her usual activities the previous day. Friends discovered her around ten o'clock and funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist Church. An obituary is planned for next week's Record.
In honor of J. G. Carlson turning 90, an open house will be held at the Carlson home in south Osceola on January 3 from 2 to 5 30 p m.
Last week the Fire Department answered a call to the James McKeag Sr residence on Wednesday night when a Christmas tree ignited. Damage was confined to the room. gifts, a rug, drapes, and walls burned. Mr. McKeag suffered burns while removing the burning tree from the house.
A. T. Carlson died at Stromsburg's hospital after weeks of illness. Charles W. Carlson a prominent farmer southeast of town also died Christmas morning, marking a double loss for the community.
A large crowd attended the Fairview Hall supper on December 7 for Fairview Farm Bureau Unit members and families. A Christmas gift exchange occurred and a business meeting reviewed the 31st annual state convention at Lincoln on November 20–22, 1950. Attendees included Dewey Lockard Oscar Imm Henry Galus and fourteen Polk County members. Mrs Harry McCauley served as reporter.
On December 7, 1950, delegates from Polk County precincts elected a county committee for 1951 at the PMA office in Osceola. Names include Lee F. Campbell as chair, Richard C. Sealey as vice chair, and Leo Cockson as third member from Clear Creek. precinct representatives listed for Canada, Clear Creek, Hackberry, Island, Osceola, Platte, Pleasant Home, Stromsburg, and Valley.
A referee's sale of the Finney Peterson eighty acres near Polk will start at 2:00 p m January 9 at the South Front Door of the Osceola County Courthouse. The unimproved land appeals to investors and nearby owners. Reports from the soil testing lab show many seed samples germinate at under 50 percent this spring. Farmers are urged to submit samples now to confirm replacements if needed. Seed oats moving early, portable seed cleaning operating, and warnings against dirty seed. Clarke McNary trees in high demand with dwindling supply. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Cotton were Christmas Day guests at the Glen Ferguson home in Havens. Mrs. Ferguson is a granddaughter of Mrs. Cotton.
The Gas Company through District Manager H. R. Slocum announced a roughly 10 percent rate increase for both commercial and domestic natural gas, effective with meter readings after December 20 1950. Slocum cited higher wages federal taxes and rising material costs with the main factor being higher gas purchase prices.
Osceola built a 16-10 first quarter lead and held a 27-23 halftime edge before pulling away in the third to win 58-49 at home. Snodgrass scored 17 and Walgreen 16 for Osceola, while Billy Kubus led Silver Creek with 15. Reserve players added a 38-18 win over Silver Creek seconds.
