Polk County Boy Serves Uncle Sam Honors Navy Training

Osceola high school graduate Isimer G. Stewart left in 1944, enlisted March 1, 1945, began boat training in San Diego April 27, hospitalized in Corona since July 1, now well enough to take Christmas leave at home. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles L Stewart.

Heavy Snow Blankets Polk County Before Christmas

One of the heaviest snowfalls on record hits Polk County the day before Christmas turning streets to slush and blocking car travel. Light winds limit drifting but side roads will stay affected for some time.

Candle Light Vesper at Osceola Methodist Church

A candle light vesper service at Osceola Methodist Church featured a Christmas Cantata directed by organist Mrs Maurine Schumann. The church glowed with seven branch candles as Elton Berck read scripture. Soloists included Mrs Clyde Smith Mrs Thelma Dunham Ruth Bintz and L M Merrick.

Kenneth Hultquist and his wife, both of York, spent Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. A Hultquist. Misses Jean and Darlene Falk of Omaha and Delores Falk of Lincoln are home with their parents. Messages note Stanton Moore will discharge at Leavenworth after east coast service. Robert Nyquist of Long Beach visits Osceola relatives. Roy L. Ericson Jr. returns from Omaha for a stay. Betty Stanton visits from Lincoln. Rodney Anderson comes from Ann Arbor for a week with his parents. Andersons share a Christmas dinner with the Westrings. Sam Bailey returns from Los Angeles for the holidays.

Fremont man and daughter killed in auto crash

Aaron Siebert 49 and his daughter Sharlene six died in a collision near Highways 81 and 92 two miles east of Shelby. Mrs Siebert seriously injured, later moved to York hospital. Siblings Harold eleven and Doris thirteen escaped with minor injuries. Two other cars collided at the same site. Patrolman Don Meisterer investigated both accidents.

Oscar Thomas Morgan born May 30 1868 in Marshes county Illinois died December 19 1945 in Osceola Nebraska at 77 years 6 months 19 days. He lived in Jewel County Kansas and Nebraska Polk County with wife Myrtle Anna White and son Elmer Leroy. Services were held at Kepner Funeral Home Osceola and burial followed in Osceola cemetery.

Funeral for Raymond C. Terry Held at Silver Creek

Funeral services were conducted for Raymond C. Terry 51 of the Osceola area who was fatally injured in a tean and hayrack runaway. The service was at the Silver Creek Methodist Church with Rev H F Beebe officiating. Burial followed in Silver Creek cemetery. He was born October 5 1894 in Monroe and married Violet Parrish January 14 1920. He is survived by his wife his mother Mrs Sarah J. Terry of Monroe and three brothers and three sisters.

Dorothy Mae Fintel born December 26 1928 Utica Nebraska died December 15 after surgeries in Osceola and Omaha at age 17 years 11 months 23 days.
