Mystery Farm Tied to Union Pacific Heritage Near Osceola
The 240 acre mystery farm, owned by David Rutter and located three and a half miles west and north of Osceola, was once part of Union Pacific holdings. The land, never homesteaded, passed from Union Pacific to Francis Schouler in 1964, with Pierson and Pier son as early owners. The Rutters, with four children, manage cattle, hogs, and general farming on the property. Last week’s guess winners were Wesley Nelson, Donnie Anderson, and Mrs. Charles Walgren.

January 31 Deadline for All ASC Corn Allotment Filings
Polk County ASC Chairman Richard C. Sealey warns that producers with no 1955 1956 or 1957 corn acreage must file for a 1958 corn allotment to qualify for price support or Soil Bank participation other than the Acreage Reserve Program. Osceola firefighters responded to a 10 30 p m blaze in Clarence Carlson s 1957 Bel Air parked before the high school auditorium while Carlson children attended a game at Silver Creek. Investigators found tampering in the motor wiring and three other cars in the area showed similar damage including a removed distributor cap and crossed spark plug wires. Sheriff Willard Cornell held two Shelby youths for questioning. no arrests yet. Estimated damage to Carlson automobile about 400 dollars.
