The third and final Chamber of Commerce Christmas script drawing was held Saturday afternoon on the south side of the courthouse. A total of 150 dollars was given away to the following persons present when their names were drawn: 50 dollars to Mrs. Marvin Dawes 25 dollars to Cheryl Schott and Russell Miller 10 dollars to Edythe Anderson Lavina Swanson Bernice Blackmoar Glenn Miller and Clarence Johnson Children’s Prizes Lori Johnson and Mike Sigler.
Osceola traveled to Silver Creek Friday night and fell 60-57 as the Bulldogs fought turnover woes and harsh officiating. Mark Schott led Osceola with 15 points while Hayes added 10 rebounds in a tight back-and-forth game.
Reverend W F Sladky reflects on Christmas as the incarnation of God becoming man. He cites St John and St Paul to show Jesus as the great grace and gift of God, and urges living temperately justly and piously as children of God. The 12 to 15 year old group must complete a Game and Parks hunter safety course to hunt legally in Nebraska next year. About 20 000 youths have been trained since 1973 with 2000 volunteer instructors, and another 20 000 are expected before fall. The program covers ethics wildlife laws and gun handling with optional first aid and survival.
The Polk County Farm Bureau elected 1976 officers led by President Robert Bryan and Vice President Donald Schott. Other officers include Mrs Mauritz Swanson as woman director and Keith Peterson as junior director, with ten representatives at the state convention in Sioux City.
Osceola high school hosted Stromsburg and lost 40 to 21 as Stromsburg earned seven wins, three by forfeit. Osceola had no entrants in 98, 138 and 185 pounds, moving to a 1-3 dual record and setting up the Clarks Invitational on January 3.
The Polk County Historical Society met December 18 at Swede Haven in Stromsburg with Myrtle Anderson as program chair. The next meeting is set for March 18 in Osceola. The country church steeple was reattached at the museum grounds and a May 31 dedication aims to mark the 1976 season reopening of the eight-building site. Lions raffle winners announced in Osceola included Ardath Hayes Bert Gissler Floyd Butler Maurice Lindburg LaVern Miller Turkeys and boneless hams awarded to several Stromsburg residents.
