First horse meat for human consumption was slaughtered under state veterinary approval with Thomas Bradstreet leading Bradstreet Clemens Horse Sales. Meat will be sold at 10 cents per pound less than beef as Grand Island becomes the third U.S. city to sell horse meat.
The high school enjoyed an hour of singing Friday morning led by Dr. R. E. Sturdevant. Miss Florence Dunn and Mrs Rob J Inness visited Thursday. Miss Snider has been unable to attend since last Thursday and normal trainers supervise her room. A Friday faculty meeting covered the War-Savings stamp campaign and urged teachers to participate.

Louis Chobar, accused of killing farmer Albert A Blender near Osceola in York County on November 28, was arrested by Sheriff Hohn near Valentine and jailed in Cherry County. Blender, a wealthy Osceola farmer, was shot with a .32 caliber rifle. Chobar fled in Blender’s car, left a confession note, and blamed robbery in a motive suspected by deputies. Mrs Chobar, tied to a bed post, escaped and alerted neighbors.
On Monday December 10 at the U B parsonage in Shelby J Gades married Ethel B daughter of J Rhoades and Mr and Mrs John Rosenberry. Witnesses were Leon and Jenny Rosenberry. The couple, after a visit to Omaha, plan to move to a farm twelve miles west of Osceola and begin housekeeping. A large circle of friends wishes them well.
Federal income tax officer George L. Loomis announces a tax office will operate in Osceola from February 92 to March 1. The service is free to taxpayers and will be located in the courthouse daily. Citizens are invited to estimate how many married filers will exceed 2000 and how many single filers will exceed 1000 for the year.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday twenty one neighbors joined at the Hiyo Aden farm to husk two days worth of corn and store it in cribs. Several would have joined but for illness or other causes. Mr Aden, mourning his wife’s death, expresses heartfelt thanks through the paper and says he will always remember those who lent aid.

Nebraska farmers will hold regional meetings January 14 to 19 with two to six gatherings of interest. Top midwest and national experts will discuss farming in wartime, offering advice on handling various products. A single meeting can cover the trip costs many times over. Nebraska business subjects to recent food administration rulings announced by Gordon W Wattles. Canners may can 5 percent of their pack under approved applications and permits are being mailed. Bakers may add normal sugar to sweet breads. buttermilk use permitted with skim milk rule. Cold storage marking required for goods held over 30 days and for perishables stored before November 1 1917. Licensed dealers must display license numbers on sale slips.
