Osceola Woman's Club Traces Its 1887 Beginnings

The Osceola Woman's Club began as the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Course on October 3 1887 with both men and women eligible for membership. Early members included BF Lb King D M Butler and Willard Farrow who achieved recognition in law. The club helped found the local library, planted elm trees in 1914 and organized arts and crafts in 1915 1916, with several charter members still living.

Why Not A Skating Rink In The Community

The Record urges the Community Club to offer a local skating rink for youths this winter. A level city spot about half a block could be enclosed with a furrowed border and filled with city water to make a safe, affordable recreation area. If approved, funds are available to build it, keeping children near home and away from distant venues.

Polk County Winners at Ashland Poultry Show

Osceola Hatchery won seven prizes from 12 exhibits at the Tri County Poultry Show in Ashland Nebraska held December 6 to 9. About 700 birds were on display with winners including White Wyandotte Pullet first, White Wyandotte Cockerel fourth, White Plymouth Rock Pullet fourth, S C Rhode Island Red Pullet second, White Leghorn Pullet thirty eighth, and S C Mottled Pullets second and fifth, owned by multiple breeders led by Harry J.
