A Polk County district court jury returned a guilty verdict in the state versus Norris Swanson of Polk. Swanson, charged with stealing a Chevrolet coupe from his grandfather C. H. Doremus, near Polk, was captured last week by the state safety patrol near Lincoln. Judge Hastings will sentence him in a few days. The trial marked maiden appearances for defense counsel R. E. Nuquist and Phil Nyberg before a jury, while county attorney Phil Campbell called his first criminal case.

Polk County farmers completed their final ACP payments across nine precincts last week. More than 300000 dollars will arrive via conservation checks soon. The county office handled the entire process, aided by a larger staff, reducing association expenses to 5.1 percent this year from 10 percent last year. Most payments fall in the 60 to 185.99 dollar range with a 14 dollar increase. no raise for payments over 200 dollars. County committee staff offer clarification on any questions.

Polk County Pioneer Dies at Age 86 on Farm Near Columbus
Elizabeth Silkett Kinsman aged 86 a Polk county resident for 64 years died peacefully at her farm home seven miles southwest of Columbus after a longtime illness. Born August 25 1853 in Red Oak Iowa she came to Nebraska in 1875 and married James W. Kinsman in 1876. Survived by two sons a daughter 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held in Columbus with burial in Columbus cemetery.
