At a regu lar semi monthly meeting the Community Club approved moving forward with a Corn Poultry and Pet show. County Agent Adair will chair the preparations leveraging state school ties for talent. Updates promised and a full report due December 15.
The War Department urges veterans to apply now for adjusted compensation. About one million three hundred thousand applications have been filed, with 850,000 examined and 400,000 forwarding certificates. Clerical staff and equipment are in place to handle roughly 30,000 applications daily, and delaying could raise costs and delay cash payments slated for March 1, 1925.

The Community Club spearheads efforts to boost Osceola merchants and civic life. It organized band concerts, Fourth of July events, campground and park improvements, fire prevention day, and plans a winter Poultry Corn and Pet Show with lectures and farm courses. The club urges buying at home to strengthen loyalty, reduce taxes, and improve schools, churches, roads, and stores while proving Osceola goods compare favorably with distant cities.
The 68th Congress reconvened Monday for a brief final session amid a widening split between regular and insurgent Republicans. Leaders LaFollette and three top supporters have been expelled from party councils. President Coolidge urged cost reduction and strict economy in his annual message, stressing government restraint over tax cuts as a remedy for economic ills.
The president advocates repealing publicity provisions of the tax law and urging Senate approval of the Harding Hughes World Court proposal. The administration resists a disarmament conference until others act on League of Nations plans.
The Dramatic division of the Osceola Woman's Club meets December 10 with Mrs. Frank D. Mills. CN Chapter PBE Sisterhood hosts AR of Stromsburg December 15 at Mrs. C. A. Olson's home. Eastern Star Kensington Christmas party at Mrs. O. E. Mickey's December 16. Entre Nous Christmas party at Mrs. Wilber Olson's home. Eastern Star election of officers at regular meeting. Monday Night club met at the Presbyterian church with a committee led by Mr. and Mrs. J L Heald and others. Gabalets hosted by Mrs. Wilber Johnston. Ladies Aid meets Friday with hostesses Hulquist, Dahlberg, Wieseman, Peterson, and Miss Alice Matheson. Merry Workers met at Presbyterian church with Mrs. Barr, Beatty and Duncan as hostesses. Alice Carpenter Circle Westminster Guild meets tomorrow at the Presbyterian Manse with Miss Bernice Welch hosting.
The Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church presented a clever play Two Masters last Sunday evening before a fair sized audience. The cast included Mrs. Van Horne Mrs Barr Mrs Stuart Mrs Stone Janet McCrae Mrs F Anderson Rachel Miss Blake Charlotte Mrs Geo Campbell Helen or Miss Welch Mrs C Van der Witt Jones Mrs Beatty and President of Culture Club Mrs Dearborn. Special praise went to Mrs Stone the invalid mother for outstanding performance. The Westminister Guild sung Long Trail Nights of the Holy Grail and Mrs Geo Campbell sang Only One Mother.
Community Club leads the shift from school sole sponsorship to a joint football dinner. A detailed program will appear next week as organizers promote sportsmanship and cooperation nationally.
Helen Kummer died at Columbus hospital from complications after an appendicitis operation four weeks earlier. Born November 1902 near Columbus, she attended Columbus schools and the state university graduating in 1924, active in Mortar Board and Gamma Phi Beta. She taught English in Osceola high school and served as senior sponsor. funeral held at Federated church in Columbus with Osceola attendees.
Ellen Eklund Peterson born December 6 1847 in Christianstad Sweden died November 28 1924 at her home in Gresham Nebraska aged 76 years 11 months 21 days She came to the United States in 1865 lived in Monmouth Illinois married Swen Peterson on March 15 1872 They raised foster son August Eklund and another Andrew Peterson After moving from Springfield Illinois they settled north of Gresham Nebraska on a homestead in 1876 and retired eight years ago Funeral held at home November 30 conducted by Rev G T Savery of Shelby
Selma and Herman Anderson returned to Lincoln to resume school on a Sunday. C. V. Propst and family drove to Ong for Thanksgiving visiting Frank Engdahl and then to Geneva to see Propst brothers Dr. W. E. E. Propst and Clyde. Mrs Shrader and son Warren arrived from Burley Idaho to visit Charles Olson and family with plans to stay through Christmas. John G. Carlson drove to Wahoo to bring home his daughter Lavina and her friends from Luther College. Bert L. Burns plans to move to Burlington Colorado in March with Ray Burns farming nearby. Burns farm east of the city remains unsold.
D H Bull traveled to Omaha on business while many families hosted relatives for Thanksgiving. Visitors arrived from Thayer Stromsburg and Lincoln as farms shifted hands and marriages of local families were noted. A car collision near town caused minor injuries. revival services began at Wesley Chapel. Masonic Lodge held a notable Masters degree with delegates from Osceola Stromsburg York and Columbus. 35 members attended a large Thanksgiving gathering at Burrel Huddleston’s home.
Community singing led by W I Smith with a program on character building and popular studies. Rev George and Miss Fulmer presented evidence from the school. Social hour chaired by Mrs J L Heald, Mrs C E Hansen, and Miss Yung.
Local radio fans report strong reception of foreign stations during International Test Week. Wm Hernbloom Larson heard 5NO at Newcastle and 2LO London with a homemade four tube set, while Bert Wheeler picked up several English stations and a Spanish one on his three tube DeForest set.
Walter Monson arrives in Osceola to visit friends and attend to business matters. He is connected with a Seattle chain grocery firm run by his brothers and associates, overseeing advertising after relinquishing buyer duties for 24 stores. Monson, trained in ad writing, emphasizes conservative ability and local ties as he enjoys Osceola hospitality and the western business climate.
Mrs Mary Elwood who visited with her daughter Mrs Albert Ryan in Omaha yesterday afternoon returned home accompanied by Mrs Ryan. Mr Ryan left two weeks ago for California and Mrs Ryan will join him after a brief Omaha visit. They plan to spend the winter in California visiting Los Angeles Hollywood and other points and will mostly stay in San Diego.
A Osceola business committee announced holiday events tied to Santa Claus stunts and a Christmas tree. Merchants prepare two Saturdays of planned entertainment with details to be announced and advertised in town.
A large Modern Woodmen of America class adoption is planned for December 8 at 7 30 PM in the Auditorium with at least 80 candidates expected. Head consul A R Talbot and state deputy Kester will preside. The York M W A Drill Team will confer the degree and attend the event in Nebraska.
Sixty members attended a Masonic banquet in the basement of the U B church in Shelby. Delegations from Surprise Rising City and Osceola were present. John C. Rasp of Shelby received the Master’s degree from Ira C. Freet of York. Rev G E Savery of Shelby was toastmaster with talks by Pete Pike of Stromsburg and Judge F H Ball of Osceola.
Election of officers at the meeting of Odd Fellows this week resulted in W. A. Coffendaffer being named G a W G H C. Duncan as W G. S&S A. Snider was chosen Secretary and A. A. Gray Treasurer. The lodge has held a series of interesting meetings this season.

A public auction in Osceola Nebraska features 20 Jersey Guernsey and Brown Swiss milk cows and 20 Jersey Guernsey Swiss yearling heifers. The sale starts 1 30 pm Monday December 8 in town. Cattle are TB tested ages 1 to 7 years with 10 cows fresh with calves and the rest springers.
