Andrew Kresha 18 and Janet Swanson 18 were named 1971 4 H King and Queen at the Annual Achievement Night in Shelby. Andrew, a West Island 4 H Club member, completed nine projects and attended several leadership and public speaking events while pursuing seminary studies. Janet, a Debettes 4 H Club member, completed sixty seven projects across foods clothing home living birds health safety and more and participated in judging activities.

Gas rates raised for Congas customers in Nebraska
Congas customers in Osceola and 36 other Nebraska communities will pay more for gas starting November 14 1971. Northern Natural Gas Co sought higher rates but the Federal Power Commission reduced the increase to 4 cents per thousand cubic feet. Final rates may change after a Commission ruling under Phase 2 price controls.

Polk County reports October bond sales of 5,070 dollars bringing ten month total to 128,462 dollars and 114.3 percent of the year quota, according to county chairman W. E. Johnson. Nebraska October bond sales reach 4,113,709 dollars, up 18 percent from last year. Statewide ten months total 42,927,398 dollars, up 22 percent, accounting for 98.9 percent of the 1971 quota.
