The Record announces the annual Armchair Quarterback Contest with a Sept 8 high school game entry deadline at 5 p.m. The 11 week contest ends with the Nebraska college game. First prize is weekly money and printing of the winner’s name.
The Record notes a busy printing week with Stromsburg Headlight and Mock Wilhelms producing papers. A new-old press is used, schedules align with the Headlight, and football season starts in nine days. A team picture and practice report are planned for next week. Armchair Quarterback Contest entry blanks appear in today’s issue.
Osceola locals note military graduation for Arthur C. Augustin USN son of Mr and Mrs Richard Augustin of Shelby. Community schedule lists events from Sept 2 to 15 including fairs, bazaars, council, Legion activities and church school promotions. Also reports on funerals, weddings, hospital visits and church notices.
Jerry Lewis of Boulder Colorado survived a summer expedition that reached Mount McKinley Alaska amid danger. Seven climbing companions died and Lewis suffered frostbite before returning home to recuperate. He is the son of Mrs Laurel Lewis and grandson of Mrs A W Lewis with a deceased father. He works for a mountain land development firm and studies part time at a university.
Osceola closed its season Sunday with a 12 inning victory over Staplehurst. The win left Osceola at 7 wins and 7 losses for the summer. Also listed are the last two results: August 20 RHE Dwight 981 Osceola 451.
Warranty deeds show Homer T. Cuddeford and wife to Margaret Nordstrom for Lot 1 Block 2 Headstroms Addition Stromsburg and Eldon Swanson to Fred Hopwood part of Morrill’s Addition. Court entries list failure to pay support for James Brazda and vagrancy cases against Edward Valencia and Ricardo Mendoza with jail terms and costs. speeding cases against Ronald Sedlak, William Wozny, Michael Schill, Johnny Baker, Ronald Nordmeyer, Ray Drobny, Joan Bower.
Back in service after years a roll top oak desk and matching chair become part of a local medical history tale. Dr H S Eklund recalled using the desk as a boy and later as an adult the new doctor kept it. Ed Almstrom rescued the chair and desk from a city dump hoping to repair them.

Winter wheat is 100 percent harvested. corn and sorghum about 95 percent headed or silked. soybeans 50 percent. alfalfa and wild hay in excellent condition. Pasture and range feed average. Main farm work includes hay baling and irrigating. Corn and milo about 2-3 weeks late due to cold wet weather. Most livestock in good condition from strong pasture growth.
