Gerhart rode an electric chair while Martin rode a lawn chair, the trio visiting Klein’s farm near the Platte. Albert Ryan, soon to turn 96, flew to Europe for a celebratory trip as remodeling begins at Muse Theatre and Cengas Office with new fronts.

Collision Damages Two Autos In Osceola Intersection
Two cars were damaged in a crash at the State Street and Highway 81 intersection Saturday. Jane E. Nicolas of Shelby and Mrs Don Byers of Osceola drove the vehicles. Nicolas reported $450 damage. Byers $100. Passenger Susan Grossnicklaus sustained bruises but no hospitalization.

Cengas Secures Lower Gas Rates in Osceola
Cengas the Natural Gas Division of Central Telephone and Utilities Corporation announced a lower rate for Osceola customers after the Federal Power Commission ordered Northern Natural Gas to reduce rates. Meter readings will reflect retroactive credits beginning July 27, 1971, with credits applied to customer accounts. Friends and relatives are invited to the open house for Albert Ryan’s 96th birthday at Ryan Hill Country Club on Sunday August 29.

Farm Barn Hit by Fire North of Osceola
Mrs. Paulina Bernt reported a Wednesday afternoon blaze at her Osceola area farm that destroyed a barn filled with baled straw and at least 800 bales of alfalfa. Two calves perished, and nearby elms were damaged. Fire departments from Osceola Shelby and Duncan fought the flames. cause is unknown.

Centennial Book Editing Committee Sets Weekly Sessions
The Centennial Book editing committee will meet weekly for the next four to six weeks at 8 o clock Tuesday evenings in the Methodist Church parlors. Bernie Gissler urges all members to attend as ten years of copy are planned for each meeting. Copy for the first half of the book is due at the printers this month. The Platte College Board of Education announced Dr Vernon Taylor as Interim President effective September 1 1971. Kenneth Torczon said a Presidential Search Committee will review applicants and advise the Board which will make the final appointment. Taylor succeeds Dr Donald Newport who is moving to the University of Colorado. He has been Dean of Faculty and was part of Platte College's original administrative team since 1968.
