About 175 employees from York District at Lincoln Tel and Tel Co gathered at Osceola Park last Thursday. Representatives from 28 towns enjoyed games and a picnic dinner then swam in the pool. Manager Thesher and local staff hosted, expressing thanks to all helpers for a perfect day.
Local notes detail visits, travel and illnesses across Stromsburg Shelby and Polk County. Events include weddings and family visits, traffic accident near Ulysses with injuries, a large Shelby audience for Happy Homer, and fair preparations with four rival teams Genoa Stromsburg Rising City Ulysses and a $300 purse.
The church invites the community to Sunday School at 10:00 A M and church services at 11:00 A M and 7:00 P M. Rev C S Baughman of Tigingsville Missouri, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, is expected to preach in the morning.
The South Shelby Club will meet at Mrs. Alice Cooks on Tuesday August 24 instead of August 26. Everyone is invited to attend.
Local residents attend visits and gatherings across Osceola Stromsburg and surrounding areas. Notables include Ruth Glasser hosting a sister, Dr D J Smith and kin traveling to Pittsburg, and families from Winner North Loup and Lincoln sharing meals and plans. Community clubs, fairs, and lectures feature demonstrations poultry and cooking, plus a wedding and church notices.
The Go-Getter Sewing Club met at Miss May Petersons home with seven members and seven visitors. Numerous visits followed from families including the Johnson Mentink and Larson households, with travel from Omaha Stromsburg Grand Island and Lincoln. Several residents planned moves and visits, and a long list of relatives and neighbors gathered for weekend activities and extended visits.
Dr. and Mrs. L M Shaw and daughter Irma returned from Long Beach California where they visited their daughter Mrs R W Shirey for a month. Don Davis of Omaha arrived in Osceola for a visit with uncle W J Herrmann and family. Miss Hildur Peterson returned from Stanton Iowa after six weeks with relatives. W E Pierson drove to Omaha on business returning Tuesday. Misses Hazel McKeag Evelyn Brown Myrtle and Bertha Pierson went to York to spend the day with Miss Grace John.
The Golden Rod Sewing Club met at Miss Harriet Buss home August 10 with 15 members and 6 visitors. Programs included a piano solo by Harriet Bush a piano duet by Myra and Adeline Sredricksen and a dress judging. Naomi Sward won first prize Vera Johnson second and Pearl Fredrickson third. Refreshments were served by Opal Fredrickson and Harriet Bush. Next meeting is August 24.
