Scandinavian Heritage in Nebraska Reflects Settlement Patterns
Nebraska’s Scandinavian communities built farms, churches, and civic life across counties led by Swedes Danes and Norwegians. Immigrants formed centers in Omaha Saunders and Burt counties with notable schools at Nysted and Danish cultural ties to Dana College. Norwegians populated Maskell and Platte County while Icelanders settled the Sandhills near Bassett and Long Pine.
