Mr and Mrs Charles Rech celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner and reception at the American Legion Club Rooms in David City. Attendants, grandchildren, and relatives from Nebraska, California, Indiana, and Kansas attended, sharing telegrams from distant relatives. The couple married August 9 1910 in David City and have lived on farms before retiring to David City in 1946.

Members and families traveled to Minden Nebraska on August 14 for a church visit and tour of Pioneer Village a 10 acre site with 20 buildings and over 20000 items. The group included the Dunn Dawes Oberg Pliefke and Carlson families and four H members attended a meeting August 12 at the Oberg home to receive judging ribbons plan the State Fair and the August trip.

Fire at Rupert Carlson home quickily controlled
Fire department responded Monday afternoon to Rupert Carlson residence west of town as wind carried flames from a low burning cob pile into weeds and a lumber pile near the corn crib. The blaze was extinguished with no damage reported.

Osceola Little Leaguers Complete Undefeated Season
Osceola Little Leaguers finished their season undefeated with an 18-0 win over Silver Creek on August 4 led by one hit pitcher Barry Schmoker. A lone single in the seventh spoiled his no hitter bid as Osceola played error free. Pearl Hibbler Dies in California At 77
Pearl Jr. Hibbler, son of Frank and Louisa Hibbler, died May 14 1960 in Montebello California aged about 77. Born in Osceola he lived in Oregon in his youth and later worked as a barber for 35 years. He was married to Grace of Salem Oregon and descended from Rev. James Query. He was survived by relatives the Queries Davises and Blakes.

Big Crowd Tour Showcases Native Grass Progress In Nebraska
Seventy farms and 70 agr workers from nine Nebraska counties and one foreign country joined the Polk County Bootstrap Field Day Tour. At Elmer Allinder’s farm a weed patch impressed visitors as an excellent first year stand of native grasses. The tour revealed stands of Indian grass Big Blue stem Switchgrass and Sand lovegrass grown with grass drills in alfalfa sod. Experts noted mowing practices and weed control affect seedling vigor and discussed 14 mixtures in an irrigated pasture trial. The event ended at Wilson Seed Farm with seed production stands and equipment demonstrations.

Osceola Schools plan an August 29 opening with all day sessions and lunch at the elementary.
