Nebraskans face federal surtax impact on state tax rate
Nebraska tax experts say a 10 percent federal surtax could alter the state income tax by expanding the tax base if the levy is charged on total federal liability. The rate would be set annually by the Board of Equalization, with no federal deduction allowed, and figures remain speculative until Congress acts. The first Nebraskan rate is expected between 7 and 10 percent, with the state budgeting process awaiting federal details.
