Polk County Fair Set With Rodeo and WNAX Show

Visitors will find a rodeo on Tuesday and Wednesday with the 4-H Clubs staging Tuesday evening and Stroms burg Commercial Club plus Rob erts Dairy sponsoring Wednesday evening. Radio Station WNAX entertainers join for a full program and an orchestra will play for a free dance. More exhibits are expected as 4-H displays rise. both evening gate and grandstand are free.

Birthday and social greetings sent across distant towns

Pvt. Robert Mace of Camp Maxey Texas called home Tuesday to extend birthday greetings to his father. Dr. John Harger of Chicago called on old friends in the neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Ida Lohr visiting with her sister Mrs. Wm. Dake and husband returned to Grand Island. Sunday afternoon callers at the Heitzman home included Mr. and Mrs. Jay Buchta of Minneapolis John Buchta Mrs. Alverta Herrmann and Barbara Osceola Mrs. LaVerne Dake and Rex. A picnic along the river drew Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Carlson and others from Stromsburg and area families. Mr. and Mrs. Clair McCormick and Lanny of Stromsburg spent the day at the Wm. Dake home.

Soldier Returns with Glider Unit Near Nancy France

Pfc. Donald G. Kennedy has returned with his Glider Infantry Unit to camp near Nancy, France after two months in the Ruhr area of Germany. He took part in the glider assault near Wesel and had been rushed with his unit into Belgium prior to that operation.

Jack Kelley and family travel to California for son Allen Cornish wedding to a California girl with the groom returning from overseas duty and receiving an honorable discharge.

Carole Hanson and Leah Powell of Omaha spent Sunday with home folks. Mrs. Susan Vaughn of Fullerton visited Omaha relatives and then spent time with the Elmer Kindbergs. The Zollars celebrate a Golden Wedding next Sunday with a family dinner in St. Paul. Several residents recuperate from tonsillectomies in Osceola.

Pfc Rolland Gissler 20 son of Mr and Mrs Rudolph Gissler graduated from Osceola high school and entered the army in June 1944 He took basic training at Little Rock Arkansas and was sent to the Pacific In April 1945 he was wounded in the Okinawa fighting and has been sent back to the States for treatment
