Former Osceola Man Injured In Night Auto Crash
Two York men Pat Samuelson and Ed Bowers were seriously hurt when their car left highway 76 between Waco and Exeter after an American Legion event. Bowers suffered a broken nose and jaw, multiple fractures, and internal injuries. Samuelson had severe bruises. A threshing crew stopped to help seven hours after the crash.

Former Stromsburg Pastor John Nyberg Dies in Minnesota
John Nyberg a former Free Baptist Church pastor of Stromsburg died July 13 in Milaca Minnesota after a weeklong illness due to chronic nephritis He was born January 23 1864 in Hedemora Sweden aged 71 He married Albertina Broman in 1887 and emigrated to the United States in 1894 settling in Stromsburg later moving to Mille Lacs county Minnesota where he farmed 17 years before retiring and moving to town He is survived by three children Albert of Minnesota Mrs Thure Lindberg and Mrs Wallace Koksma of Milaca two sisters Mrs Axel Brorfan Milaca and Mrs Anna Lennartson Sweden and six grandchildren.

Shelby Lawrence Gondringer won second prize in a radio singing contest on K M J Saturday. Helen Moon returned from Los Angeles after two months at USC summer school. Two operations were performed at Shelby hospital Friday, a tonisil operation for Donna Miller and a similar for Morris Wolfe. Miss Maxine and Donna Jean Sayers of Columbus visited Shelby then returned home. Mrs. B F Sayers and Miss Monica Sayers drove to Shelby. the Buchholz family drove to Columbus to take Donna Jean home. Dean Wills visited his parents and returned to the CCC camp at Tekamah. Mr and Mrs Ed Schlesinger and daughter Opal and Mrs Margaret Fillinger were Lincoln visitors. Francis Charles Hastert received a BS in chemical engineering at the University of Nebraska. Mrs. Henkel of St Louis is visiting Rev C F Schlacter in Shelby. Stolen 1935 Ford V-8 Believed Taken by Harvest Hand
A 1935 Ford V-8 sedan owned by Albert Hedbloom of Stromsburg was stolen from the east side of the square Saturday around 9 15 PM. The theft was reported within minutes and sheriff and police warned surrounding towns. Insurance covered the loss.

Osceola hosted two district gatherings with the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs picnic on Thursday and the Polk County old settlers reunion on Friday. Heat and harvest work trimmed attendance, though sizable evening crowds enjoyed programs, sports, and a band concert.

Winter wheat varieties listed for certification in Nebraska bulletin
Ne braska Crop Growers' Association issues a bulletin listing two certified winter wheat varieties Nebraska 60 and Cheyenne. Nine growers had fields pass inspection and twenty three farmers had fields approved this year. Nebraska 60 originates from Turkey red and was distributed in 1908. Cheyenne is newer, high yielding, with stiff straw and erect head but susceptible to blackstem rust.
