The Nebraska hog industry centers on corn and alfalfa fields with hogs producing about 36 million dollars. Purebred hogs will be exhibited this fall in the state fair’s best swine barn, noted as top quality by superintendent R. Widle of Genoa who invites the public to view the swine show.

About a thousand people welcomed Democratic hopeful J. N. Norton in Polk Nebraska on August 8 after a chautauqua trip to Illinois. A train greeting by a band drew locals from York Aurora Stromsburg Central City and Osceola. A hotel banquet seated around one hundred, followed by an open air main street speech from the band stand. The speech was non political with D. H. Westfall presiding and brief remarks from Corcoran Grosvenor Sprague and Placek.
J. N. Norton the Polk Democrat and gubernatorial nominee arrives in Lincoln after Bryan withdrawal to fill the ballot vacancy. He meets with T. S. Allen at Democratic headquarters and plans an itinerary. Norton to speak at Beaver Crossing at 11 on Wednesday.
A large county wheat yield comes from the Geo F Anderson farm three miles south of town. Fifty plus bushels per acre from 60 acres of wheat. Oats damaged by hail still averaged 41 bushels per acre. Nearby corn also looks good.
The American World fliers plan to proceed this week as ice along the eastern Greenland coast decreases. Also in Lincoln, Dawes will address a university stadium gathering on August 29. Six testing stations will check automobile headlights, and ore in the Wedelberg mine near Deadwood is valued at 44.40. The Salt Lake bank robbery yields 5 000 to 10 000. Governor's Day marked National Guard camp at Ashland with a governor's address. Wheat deliveries to Omaha total 1 471 400 bushels, with farmers receiving 1 731 744 dollars. The Overland Limited gains a radio set, picking Hastings station. Dan B Butler accepts the Nebraska Progressive nomination for governor. Lester Lapidus found in Chicago. reward offered. Genoa Nebraska Dr Homer Davis is in critical condition and patient Otto Peterson suffers facial bruises after an unexplained X-ray flash caused Peterson to be hurled to the floor. Davis was taking teeth photographs when the device flashed and he found himself beneath the machine.
The Eastern Star held its regular meeting on Tuesday night. The Ladies Aid of the M E church plans Friday afternoon gatherings at the M E church hosted by Mrs Merrick Crossant Addison, Mickey. Mrs Fillman hosted the Bridewees at a 1230 luncheon with guests sewing for the hostess. Merry Workers met at the Presbyterian church with hostesses Hubbard Kenner and Beninacy. The Builders class of the M E church plans a six oclock trip to a picnic in Buckley Park Stromsburg.
Miss Effie Kropatsch travels to Columbus Sunday afternoon to spend several days with her aunt Mrs. O. H. Hasselbalch.
Announcements report the marriage of Mary Fillinger and Lamonte Dover last Monday. The ceremony took place at 8:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley Near. Mrs Dover is well known in the community.
St Anne Sodality met at the home of Edward Messing Sunday evening. Paul Herrmann, son of W J Herrmann, stuck a pitchfork through his foot last evening. The doctor was called to dress the wound.
Osceola troop members and parents held a reception at the G A R Hall to honor the scouts. Dr. C L LeMar moderated with remarks from A F Nuquist Rev J A Klein and W O Hansen. Scouts showcased first aid semaphore signals and a quiz during the program.

Morris Danielson aged 25, son of Mr and Mrs Chas Danielson of Stromsburg, died at his home last Thursday night and was buried Sunday in Stromsburg cemetery. He had long illness and medical care in Rochester, Minnesota failed to help. He leaves his mother, father and three sisters.
A regular Community Club meeting is planned at the G A R hall this evening. The Hastings county fair trip was made by H C Beebe W A Newcomer Chas Newcomer and Wm Stokes. Frank Anderson and family left for Lake Erickson for a vacation. A birthday party for Wm Kropatsch was held Sunday afternoon at O J Kropatsch’s home with many relatives attending. Guests included Mr and Mrs Kotlar Valeria Kotlar Edmund Zipper John Zipper and families from Columbus and Mr and Mrs Carl Scholz and John Scholz from Osceola. An elaborate fried chicken dinner followed by an informal afternoon.
