John J. Liskovec, 25, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Liskovec of Osceola area, entered the armed forces in August 1941 and serves as a Private First Class stationed at Bowling Green Virginia.
The paper prints a sample of Republican Democratic and Non-Political ballots for the upcoming election. Voters are urged to study them before voting to cast informed ballots. Precincts will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Vote your choice, vote.
Nebraska farmers in infested areas burn stubble to combat army worms. University of Nebraska entomologists say burning stubble is worthless for control. Parasites weather and other factors typically check the second generation of army worms in Nebraska.
Miss Ruth Urban of Osceola married Gerhardt Lux of Shelby at St Andrews church on August 4 in a morning ceremony officiated by Rev Jensen. Attendants included Nadine Lux and others. The couple will reside on a farm six miles east of Shelby after a wedding dinner and dance.

The county fair plans a Farmers Day Tuesday August 11 at 2 PM with mixed entertainment and education. The Stroms burg men's chorus, Staroscik sisters tap numbers, and talks by AAA cooperators and FSA figures highlight programs on farming and war effort. Prizes and audience participation add local flavor.
Sunday and weekend visitors filled the Stromsburg scene with East and regional connections. Families from Essex Osceola Benedict Gresham York and Hampton visited Burke Fillman Branting Reed and others, attended a Columbus wedding, and the Hultquist twins planned weekend stays with the Malek family in Osceola.
District No. 18 reports John Micek and John Trogash helping the Sebergers move to Shelby while the Seberger family vacates. Rev A W Lapthorne will lead services on Sunday with Church School at 10:00 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m. The sermon is titled A Strange Monument. Visitors are welcome.
Rev and Mrs John Oberg and daughter from Chicago spent several days in Osceola visiting kin. Alfred Thorngren and daughter from Milo joined them for a Colorado vacation. W E Snider returned from Lincoln to Osceola. Various locals hosted birthday celebrations and sent relatives to Columbus and Lincoln for events.
Experiments at Minnesota College of Agriculture show water 56 degrees cools fresh cream to the water temperature in an hour, much faster than air cooling from 90 to 76 degrees. Rapid separation and cooling to under 60 degrees, preferably 50, prevents bacterial growth and improves butter quality.
The U P A R Co plans to discontinue operating a motor train through this city and a hearing will be held in Lincoln on Monday September 14 at 10 o clock.
The Shelby annual picnic last Sunday drew a large crowd with more than 600 dinners served in the evening. Sacred Heart Parish members express sincere thanks for the splendid response.

Polk County 4-H Club members present a county fair program before the grandstand on August 12. The program features a quiz, musical numbers, skits, a 4-H demonstration, and a dress revue. The parade closes the show with 4-H club representatives and 100 head of top beef and dairy cattle.
Mrs Helen Maxey announces the engagement of her daughter Marilyn Helen Maxey to Richard P B LeMar son of Dr and Mrs C F LeMar of Down City Iowa He is in officers training candidate school at Miami Beach Florida and will be commissioned lieutenant in the army air corps upon graduation next Wednesday Miss Maxey a Nebraska University graduate was Phi Beta Kappa and chi Omega LeMar attended the university for 3 1/2 years and joined Phi Sigma Kappa The wedding is planned soon LeMar is well known in Osceola where he lived most of his life until recently
Mrs Anna Elizabeth Naslund born June 17 1865 in Helsing sand Sweden died July 31 1942 at Strømsburg Nebraska aged 77 years 1 month 14 days. She came to America with Peter G Stoneberg at age three and lived near Swede Plain where she and Olof Naslund married June 17 1881. Funeral at Swede Plain Methodist Church with Rev A C Bates officiating followed by burial in Swede Plain cemetery.
