The first annual Mid-Nebraska District Odd Fellows and Rebekah Picnic will be held in Osceola City Park on August 8. Osceola Club Backs Bond Vote for Park Pool Modernization

The Osceola Nebraska Community Club unanimously supports a mayor and city council move to submit a $4,000 bond proposal to voters. The plan funds a new filtration system bathhouse and facilities at the city park pool with a 10 year repayment, costing about 70 cents per thousand valuation annually, offset by expected pool revenue.

Fire destroys grain and implement shed at Osceola area

A Friday afternoon fire of unknown origin destroyed a granary and a machine shed at the Hilbert Buchta farm in the valley northwest of Osceola. Osceola firemen arrived too late. about 550 bushels of grain and assorted implements, tools, and stored supplies were lost. Some coverage came from insurance.

Mrs B A Moderow and son from Aurora visited her parents Mr and Mrs Emil Meerkatz for the weekend. Kenneth and Leroy Larson left for sales duties in eastern and southern states after a month with local friends and relatives. Several families hosted travelers and relatives including Westfalls and Strouds, Brantings, Baacks, Bodines, and Pates. Henry Hopp suffered a sun stroke. Lytle underwent an appendicitis operation with serious but improving condition.

Osceola Hospital Births and Tonsil Removals

A baby boy named Donald LeRoy Moser was born Friday at Osceola Hospital weighing five pounds thirteen ounces. Mrs. S P Johnson and Jack Wieseman both underwent tonsil removals, and Mrs George Horst showed slight improvement after arthritis treatment. Jack Hastings also had his tonsils removed while under Dr Schroeder care.

Fairview Community Notes Busy Weekend Visits

Old Settlers Picnic Planned in Osceola Next Friday

Plans are under way for the Old Settlers picnic in Osceola on August 9. The all day event opens with nine o clock registration at the courthouse, a noon picnic at the city park with free coffee, an Edgar Howard address, band concerts, Osceola versus an outside baseball game, free swimming, rides, and a pavement dance to close. Shirley Temple’s Our Little Girl appears at the Rivoli Theatre.

Alma Peterson of Osceola visited Clarence Anderson. Threshing rings have finished wheat and begin oats.
