County track star shatters records despite weather setbacks

Osceola Band Wins Top Class C Rating at Aurora

Osceola high school band earned the top Class C rating at Aurora on Saturday. Director Gene Cappen said judge Robert L. Marshall of Nebraska Wesleyan awarded only one such rating among 10 Class C schools and the band also rated superior in sight reading. He expressed pleasure at the result.

Polk County Home Extension presents its annual Spring Tea on Monday May 3 at Osceola Lutheran Church with Nebraska Centennial theme featuring speaker Mrs Jim Wilson of Polk who will show Polk County slides. Augusta Messing obituary and Osceola life events

Augusta Cecelia Messing, born Polk County October 20, 1888, died April 23, 1965, in Osceola. She married Frank Joseph Messing May 10, 1911, at St. Andrew's near Osceola. they farmed near Shelby and later lived at Samaritan village. Survived by husband and seven children, funeral at Sacred Heart Shelby. Ray Warner eighty died in Lincoln April twelve after retiring from a farm near Stromsburg for thirty years and living in Lincoln twenty two years. Cancer Crusade Nears Completion in Osceola

The 1965 Cancer Crusade wraps up as residents may be contacted by neighbors or precinct and county chairs. Creighton University and the University of Nebraska split 97,759 for research and education with funds allocated to public and professional education, patient services, and fundraising. Osceola groups offer free school and club films, while Cub and Boy Scouts assist Lions with a door to door eyeglass drive. New Oscecolans Jerry Krieger and John Iske join highway patrol duties. Krieger, from Lincoln, and Iske, from Gretna, begin six month probationary assignments with patrols and family updates.

Chamber to assist at Polk County Fair barbecue and events

Women Bowlers Hold Season Ending Banquet at Kings Ballroom

Nearly 130 women bowlers from Lorre Lanes closed the season with a 6:30 p.m. banquet at Kings Ballroom in Shelby. Mrs Gene Scow entertained with solos as Peggie Mills led a business meeting. Osceola Wins Polk County Track Meet with New Records

Osceola sweeps the Polk County meet edging Shelby and Polk under sunny skies. Craig Monson claimed two weight events and set a county discus record while also breaking a 13 year school record in the shot put. Stromsburg finished last with strengths shown in freshman relay efforts.
