The new Henderson Community school is now in full use after moving high school classes from the old building. The $410000, 46000 square foot one story structure houses both elementary and secondary facilities and can accommodate about 400 students.

Five Polk County banks sponsored a 4-H Leaders Banquet at the Osceola auditorium to recognize and award 4-H leaders. Awards were given by Kenneth Schmidt and Margaret Crosby with two year and five year plaques and pins. Joe Watson spoke after a film, and dinner was provided by Osceola Methodist Church ladies.
Four Polk County youths left Osceola Monday for armed service. The group traveled to Omaha to receive assignments to a service branch. Named are Victor Mangelson and Robert Earle Johnson of Osceola, Valerian Podraza of Columbus, and Larry Lind of Stromsburg.
A miscellaneous shower last Wednesday evening honored the recent bride Mrs. Dwight Swanson at the home of Mrs. Jack Malek. Easter motifs decorated the event with an Easter Egg tree of colored eggs. Prizes were won by Mrs. M A Swanson, Mrs. Rose Dinges and Mrs. Dale Heimer as 30 guests enjoyed refreshments.
Rep Robert Harrison visited Polk County last Saturday for a speaking engagement in Osceola and Polk during his Nebraska trip for funeral services for Senator Dwight Griswold. About 50 people attended the luncheon in Polk where Harrison spoke on foreign aid and agricultural legislation.
Army Pvt. Emery R. Burgess son of Mr and Mrs Weston Burgess Shelby has arrived in Mannheim Germany for duty with the 7th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion He is a radio operator in Battery D entered the Army in August 1953 and was formerly stationed at Fort Riley Kansas.
Beulah Cemetery Society schedules its annual clean-up for Saturday April 24 at the cemetery. All are urged to attend and bring lunch. Gab-O-Lots gathers Wednesday April 28 with Mrs W H Norton. Entre Nous meets Wednesday evening April 28 with Mrs Wallace Monson.
Basil W. Lewis born October 2 1903 in Osceola Nebraska died April 15 1954 at age 50 years six months and 12 days. He lived much of his life in Polk County taught 20 years in Nebraska schools and served in government Indian Service in South Dakota. He married Margaret Neth in May 1930 and five sons and one daughter survived. Interment followed Monday at Osceola Cemetery with Rev Bollinger officiating.
Osceola designates Saturday May 1 as Poppy Day with American Legion Auxiliary volunteers selling poppies all day to honor World War I and II dead. Proceeds aid disabled veterans who craft the flowers. The pledge is that every penny serves a double purpose in a noble cause.
The Legion Auxiliary hosts its annual Child Welfare luncheon next Friday at 1 PM in the legion rooms. Tickets cost 75 cents, and Auxiliary members are urged to attend with a guest. Proceeds support Child Welfare in the state. Mrs. John Inness leads the program.

The Selective Service Local Board 75 relocates from the Polk County courthouse third floor to the north lobby area inside the former Soil Conservation department space. The new quarters are just inside the north lobby door for easier access.
Three Osceola music students at the University of Nebraska join stage and screen star Basil Rathbone in the symphonic psalm King David set for May 2 at 8 p m in University Coliseum. Carol Miller Carolyn Rhodes and Jack Conrad are chorus members in a 27 piece program featuring Rathbone as narrator. Rathbone visits campus April 30 May 1 and May 2 for student forums and discussions.
The Record Office will close from Friday noon until Monday while staff attend the Nebraska Press Association convention in Omaha.
Osceola residents hosted and visited relatives over Easter weekend. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Meldon Hess with Mrs. Sadie Zedicher in Shelby, and the Mieran couple from Newman Grove visiting Osceola. A mix of trips to Lincoln Illinois Rock Island and Minnesota marked the holiday observances with family gatherings at various homes.
