Temperatures rose over the past week with a high of 71 on Saturday and a low of 40 the next day. Rain totals added up to .99 on Thursday .10 on Friday and .22 on Saturday. Daily readings show Hilo from April 6 to April 12 ranged from 52 to 71 with lows from 37 to 51.

Osceola Lions Club met at City Hall with officers elected and three new members joining Steve Georgeau Mervin Ransom Sr and Charles Kucera. The club plans an informational booth for Old Times Day and will help erect signs for the chamber event.
Osceola Schools announce closures on April 16 and 19 with a busy schedule of events. The Polk County Education Association hosts its final meeting April 20 at Shelby School Auditorium at 6 30 p m with seniors as guests. The Annual Athletic Banquet is April 21 at 7 p m, and the District Music Contest travels to Aurora April 23 24. May events include Junior Senior Prom May 1. Goldenrod Conference Track May 4. Junior High Band Concert May 4. Baccalaureate May 16. Honor Program May 18. and Commencement May 20. Also, Osceola volunteer firemen buy a new fire siren and plan to install it within 10 days to 2 weeks with tests announced from the fire truck public address system.
Polk County Recreation Assn members approve Farm Home Administration for a recreation area with a 9 hole sand greens golf course shooting ranges and camp sites. Only 180 charter memberships accepted with a $10 deposit and $75 due after 130 members signed. Bill Norton named president with a slate of officers and committees. New UP depot agent Mrs Lucille Veelik arrives in Osceola replacing retiree S W Calhoun.
Osceola First Methodist and St. Paul Lutheran join for Good Friday services at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Turner preaching and Rev. John Stalions directing worship. Methodist Choir to provide special music. businesses close 1 to 3 p.m. for the observance. Family visits noted include the Wiesemans, Roferts, Merrick, Bahrs, and McKeag relatives from Midland Michigan.
