Health Board Sets Polio Shot Dates for County

Polk County Board of Health approved plans to inoculate all First and Second grade students with the Salk Polio Vaccine. Vaccination dates are April 26 May 3 and May 31 at Osceola Shelby and Stromsburg high schools. Vaccines provided free by the National Polio Foundation with parental consent.

Senior Class Presents If Mother Only Knew at Osceola High

Osceola high school seniors stage a three act comedy If Mother Only Knew in the auditorium on Tuesday April 19. The program features Homer and Jethro in a specialty number alongside the senior play. Dixie Walgreen plays Mother and Kenny Prososki is her husband John Maxwell with a cast including Carolyn Marak Mary Anderson Janell Bowman and others in supporting roles.

Three Landowners Get Acreage Gift

Polk county board of commissioners abandoned a mile of road in Hackberry precinct near Osceola. The 66 foot right of way along Section 9 and 32 will revert to adjacent landowners. Harry A. Carlson and Birdelle Clark Fleming each receive about two acres and Edith O. Hiemer about four acres.

Honors For Ronald D Swanson At Nebraska Convocation

More than 450 students will be honored at the University of Nebraska Honors Convocation on April 19. Ronald D Swanson of Osceola, a senior in Engineering, will receive the Westinghouse Educational Foundation Achievement Award and has been elected to Sigma Xi. The event features top 10 percent scholars and top 3 percent seniors, with Creighton University’s Very Rev Carl M Reinert as speaker. About 600 additional students win prizes and awards.

Auto Truck Accident Fatal To Co Publisher Of The Record

Five speeders face county judge L M Merrick on April 29 for speeding at night. County attorney W H Norton said the arrests followed a radar trap by the state highway patrol between Osceola and Shelby. All five were clocked between 60 and 67 mph, exceeding the limit by at least ten mph.

Traffic talks highlight Nebraska patrol role in modern roads

Captain O H Witt spoke at Lutheran Brotherhood on traffic problems noting eight thousand injuries annually and a 32 million annual loss from crashes. He cited driver error at 85 percent and emphasized dangers on country roads with gravel and blind intersections while urging patrol stops to protect motorists. Cancer Fund Drive Underway in Osceola Neighborhood Plan

Osceola begins a door to door cancer fund drive next Monday or Tuesday led by city chairman Mrs. Martin Roberts. Residents will pass a large envelope with education material and a money receptacle between neighbors, with ten volunteers supporting the effort in defined districts. A business district canvass will also occur as Polk county aims for a $500 quota.
