GC M Humphrey told City Council on April 2 that New Light rates will adopt the Additional Use Rate June 1 1936 and may become the General Rate within two years. Residential minimum 1.00 includes 8 KWH next 17 KWH 8c per KWH next 35 KWH 1 per excess KWH per month 2.75. Commercial next 42 KWH 8c per KWH next 100 KWH 5c excess KWH 8c per month.
Seventy five young men and women attended the Polk County Young Republican Banquet at Scott Hall Stromsburg Friday evening. A Methodist Church group served banquet, with songs led by Marvin Hersey and Marian Larson at the piano. John Candis Lincoln youth National Committeeman gave the keynote urging youth involvement in precincts and government. Teresa Lou Connelly Nebraska Young G. O. P. vice chair decried Roosevelt era as government by wit and whim. Phil B. Campbell Osceola lauded youth interest and urged thoughtful organization. A business meeting elected Abert Hedblooms Stromsburg chair Grayce Stevens Hahn Stromsburg vice chair Eugene Engelhardt Osceola secretary treasurer. A Young Republicans Dance was planned for May.
The Stoner Club will meet next Wednesday April 16 with Mrs E J Brown and Mrs Martin Scholz as leader. Members are asked to bring flower or garden seeds for exchange.
Lester Peters, former CCC Camp resident at Humboldt, arrived for an indefinite stay with his mother Mrs Alma Peters, after a week away.
Mr and Mrs J O Pearson of this city announce the marriages of their daughters Ferne and Opal Pearson. Ferne wed Ernest T Engler in an Oakland California church on March 22 and will reside in Oakland where he works for the government. Opal married Richard J Argabright in Yuma Arizona on March 27 and they will live in San Diego. Argabright is a naval officer. Ferne, a 1933 graduate of Evangelical Covenant Hospital Omaha, came to California in 1935 for nursing work. Opal, a 1931 Osceola High School graduate, has been employed in Oakland for the past year and a half.
The Osceola Women s Club met in the high school auditorium for its last general meeting of the season with Mrs. W O Fudge presiding. Mrs Kermit Johnson was elected delegate to the Fourth District convention in Aurora April 16 and 17. Officers for 1936 37 were installed: President Miss Evelyn Scholz Vice President Mrs Kermit Johnson Recording Secretary Mrs Clayton Rystrom Corresponding Secretary Mrs Harry Clement Treasurer Mrs F W Schuman Auditor Mrs James Inness.
A Polk farewell party honored Mr and Mrs Bud Vincent with social time and refreshments. A linen shower for Mrs Ted Janky featured lavender and yellow decor, sewing and a luncheon for about 25. Local families visited relatives, attended Sunrise Easter services, and Baptist Missionary Society met at the church.
Amalia Margaret Buchta born August 27 1869 near Edwardsville Illinois died April 6 1936 at age 66 years seven months eleven days. She married George Horst December 25 1894 in Illinois later lived in Nebraska Osceola and Lincoln. She leaves three sons Ralph L Horst E Owen G and one grandson Ralph Horst Jr and four brothers. Funeral at Osceola M B E Church with burial in Valley Cemetery beside her husband.
The Polk County Ministers gathered at St. Pauls Lutheran Church Osceola with about twenty five present. Out-of-county visitors included Rev A C Monkman and wife from Gresham and a daughter. Officers elected: President Rev Alfred Trued Stromsburg Vice President Rev E K Dongelly Polk and Secretary-Treasurer Rev E C Staley Stromsburg. Next meeting slated for Monday May 4 at Polk.
Osceola voters showed light turnout in a city and school election. In the north ward 101 city and 116 school votes were cast. in the south ward 162 city and 167 school votes. Albin Anderson won 181 and Dr. R. L. Schroeder 176 for the school board. W. W. Norton received 132 votes and Herman Anderson 61.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Johnson of Omaha were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Snygg, sharing hospitality during the stay.
Norma Belle Davis born July 14 1908 near Osceola Nebraska died April 6 1936 at St Marys Hospital Columbus aged 27 years 8 months 24 days married to Benjamin B Schmoker on October 3 1926 they had two children Margery Mae age 5 and an infant who died at birth She lived on a farm northeast of Osceola eight miles away and was active in the First Methodist Church Osceola Survivors include brother Glen R Davis sisters Ethel Johnson Omaha Eva Kelley Shelby and many relatives The funeral was April 9 conducted by Rev W H Wright with burial in Osceola Cemetery
Delegation from Osceola and nearby towns attended the eleventh annual Rebekah District Convention in Bellwood on Friday April 3. Registration reached 176 with officers elected for the coming year and a banquet served by the Bellwood Lodge. The 1937 convention will be held in Osceola.
District Judge A C Thomson signed a decree settling the Ida M Hanson estate of Osceola who was killed in Colorado Joel Hanson of Osceola as administrator was awarded 12000 against First Mortgage Acceptance Corporation of Omaha Hanson held 12000 in mortgage bonds with the firm A claim by Charles W Neal who was convicted in Colorado of murder was dismissed Neal serves a life sentence in Colorado state penitentiary

Holy Name Society to sponsor Easter Sunday dance in Ellers Hall with good orchestra. Emma Nebosis joined family at Bellwood for Mrs Leo Janicek birthday surprise. Gerald Quick of Osceola visited. Chloris Sutko ill with scarlet fever. Father Lombardi aided Forty Hours devotions at Bee.
The city designates Clean Up Days on Wednesday and Thursday April 15 and 16. Residents should place rubbish and junk in alleys for collection by city-provided teams. Signed by W. E. Pierson.
In Omaha district contest Osceola High School earned top honors with the Boys Glee Club Class B receiving Excellent. Clayton Fredrickson earned a Superior in Boys medium voice. Girls Glee Club earned Wood third, soloists Mary Ruth Rhodes Maxine Brooks Margaret McFadlen Betty Jo Carson all named Good. Eligible to enter state contest in Kearney May 1 2.
Stromsburg voters turnout near 700 as the gas and electric distribution system purchase passed 520 to 121. Sunday picture shows lost for the fourth time by a small margin. Dr. L. V. Sharpe and Dr. C. L. Anderson join the school board while H. R. Anderson and EB. C. Nordlund are re elected as councilmen. Other officers elected include Mayor J. W. Anderson Clerk E. G. Ekstrand Treasurer Maud Johnson Police Judge Henry Parker.
Miss Jean Elizabeth Rutter and Raymond Henry Nelson were married at Valley M E Church on April 5. Rev. Max M. Eb. Church officiated with E B Maxcy assisting. Attendants included Marjorie Dunn and Theodore Rutter. A dinner followed and the couple will reside in Lincoln where the groom works.
In Fairview district last week, Rev and Mrs L Lohr of Grand Island visited W B Dake and daughter Fern's illness prompted hospital care for Fern and nine other nurses. Leora Young returned to Fullerton after a week with the Dake family. References to visits in Stromsburg Osceola Duncan and York.
