New Area Mail Center Affects Osceola Postal Service

John F. Applegate announces a 3 state Wichita Region change transferring non local mail from Osceola to central offices to improve efficiency. Osceola mail will be cancelled locally with future Columbus cancellations. 9 sorting groups will replace 27. hours may shorten to 4 30 p.m. closing if mailing is delayed.

Annual Welfare Tea Set for April 19

The annual Child Welfare Tea sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary will be held Monday afternoon April 19 at the Legion Club rooms. Co hosts are Mrs. Paul Walgren and Mrs. Earl Watts. Mrs Mark Romohr of Gresham Department chairman of Junior Activities will be the featured speaker. Tickets 75 cents in advance from any Auxiliary member. The club's project focuses on clean up paint up and fix up. Mrs Gerhardt Lux leads the Country Cousins assisted by Mrs Howard Boden.

Labor interviewer to visit Osceola and David City

In Osceola the school board approved a 6600 base salary for teachers with a bachelor's degree plus 4 percent annual increases for each year of service and for 9 credit hours above a bachelor’s, enabling a top of 11352 for a master’s with 18 extra hours and 12 years in the system.

Don Buller of Henderson has been employed by the Board of Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital as the new administrator. He will begin duties May 1. Mrs Ruth Hanson has been acting administrator since January, after Margaret Dozier resigned to take a position in Dallas County Hospital in Perry Iowa.

Osceola placed second as Jim Carlson won the low hurdles and helped score in four other events. A large crowd attended the Polk County Feeders spring barbecue at Ryan Hill Country Club on Monday evening April 5. President Bill Kumpf presided. TB Skin Testing for Polk County Students Scheduled

Tuberculin skin tests will be given in Polk County on Tuesday April 20 for grades 1 6 and 9. Sessions run 9 00 Shelby 10 00 Osceola 11 00 Polk 1 00 District 28 2 00 Stromsburg with Osceola at Jeffrey Elementary and the High School. Parents receive consent slips around April 15 and school staff involved will be tested. The effort is by the State Department of Health in cooperation with the State Medical Association.
