Eighteen district two schools sent 225 FFA members and guests to the annual District FFA contest in David City on March 20. Osceola earned two blue ribbons and one red, with Daryl Swanson winning Creed Speaking and Thomas Husak taking Project Record Book honors.

Paulson Sails to Rejoin Family in Sweden
Osceola resident Nels Paulson departed for Sweden on Saturday night en route to Tyrunge to reside there. He left New York on April 6 aboard a boat and expects to reach Sweden in about a week. Immigrating 41 years ago, he has rarely visited his homeland, the last trip being five months seven years ago, and he now seeks to live near four brothers and one sister in Sweden.

Louis Schott and Willard McKeag led 107 Nebraska Future Farmers of America to state level at Lincoln on April 1 to 3. State Farmer promotion was held in the University of Nebraska Student Union Ballroom with Orley Waldo and Harold F. Duis presenting charms and certificates. Daryl Swanson won district Creed Speaking and placed red in state, Thomas Husak earned blue in project records, a dairy cattle team won white, and crops and soils team with McKeag earned white with his individual white ribbon.

Gas Company Cuts Rates and Offers Cost of Gas Credit
After talks with the Mayor and City Council, H R Slocum of the Gas Company announced a roughly 5 percent reduction in firm gas rates effective April 12 1954. A cost of gas credit of about 2.25 cents per 1000 cubic feet will appear on bills for December 27 1953 to April 11 1954.

Seniors Sneak After Battle With Juniors

The Servicemen News notes that A3c Ross R Watts, stationed at Stead Air Force Base Reno, Nevada, arrived home Saturday for a three week visit with his parents Mr and Mrs Walter Watts. A3c Francis Ienn will arrive in Osceola this week for several days leave. Corporal Dale Jenkins, son of Mr and Mrs C C Jenkins Stromsburg, was promoted while with the 531st Quartermaster Petroleum Supply Company in Ludwigsburg Germany. He leads a squad in supplying fuel and lubrication to vehicles of the 35th Quartermaster Battalion and entered service in December 1952 arriving in Europe in November 1953. He is sister to Mrs Bill Zedicher of the city.

Four hundred thirty four students were honored for scholastic excellence at the University of Nebraska's thirty fourth annual Convocation held Tuesday April 6 in Lincoln. Osceola residents Caroline S Rhodes and Ronald P D Swanson are named among the honorees. Swanson is a junior and Rhodes a freshman. Swanson is son of Lawrence Swanson and wife living west of Osceola. Rhodes is daughter of Leroy Rhodes and wife of Osceola.

Osceola stores will close from 1:00 to 3:00 p m on Good Friday April 16 to allow staff to attend joint services at St Pauls Lutheran and the Methodist Church with Rev Homer Bollinger delivering the meditation. Stores reopen at 3:00 p m and the public is invited to attend.

Miss JoAnn Bowe and Dwight Swanson wed April 1 in a seven o'clock ceremony at the Geraldine Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Homer Bollinger. March Weather Forecast Reports Cold, Dry Month
Osceola weather records show a cold dry March with temperatures mostly below average. Nine days stayed below freezing, March 4th hit three degrees, five days at ten degrees or lower, highs in the 50s and 60s peaking at 67 on March 6th.
