Executors disclosed this week that the late Max Wolf bequeathed 150000 to fund a home for the aged in Albion. A life trust for Mrs. Wolf is created, followed by other charitable bequests. trustees decide organization and construction for the home of the aged.
Construction on the Blue River dam at Surprise is completed with cement work on the apron finished this week after the upper section was poured. Volunteers shift to preparing the adjacent park to serve as a resort area once the dam gate closes in about 10 days, per the David City Banner Press.
Mrs Roy Gwartney exclaimed like a fairy tale as a 84th carat family heirloom diamond ring was returned this week. The gem, once stolen twelve years ago, arrived in the mail in an envelope postmarked Central City with a new setting.
The Regina music box, an 1890s family heirloom, drew visitors at the Wome Builders Show last week. It features 26 spring driven perforated discs with metal teeth triggering a tuned spring, producing an orchestral-sounding performance.
Neligh will start receiving electricity from the Ft Randall generators Wednesday afternoon after activation at Monday ceremonies at the dam site. Currently Neligh powers come via a Norfolk Columbus line, with a new Ft Randall to Creighton to Neligh line planned for 1956 to complete another loop.
The Federal Power Commission approved pipeline construction in North Bend allowing natural gas service this summer or fall after years of federal hold ups and local anticipation. The town has waited long for gas as federal control of expansion affected the project.
Blair families donate this week to a fund aiding two year old Valeri Hansen who with her parents flew to New York to begin treatment with a renowned specialist. The child had one eye removed last October for malignancy and the disease has spread to the remaining eye risking blindness or death.
Two tracts from the George Davidson farm in Polk County near Butler County sold at Osceola referee sale. The 80 acre tract went to Reinhold H. Otte and the 40 acre tract to Carl M. Richert, each bringing 260 dollars per acre.
More than 385 students will be honored for high scholarship at the University of Nebraska Honors Convocation Tuesday April 6 at 10 15 a m in the Coliseum. Forty eight seniors with superior scholarship will be on the Coliseum stage. Ronald D Swanson of Osceola among prize and award winners.
Nursing home operators from East Central Nebraska formed a district association at a Wednesday meeting held at Mrs. Vernon Johnson’s home. Mrs. Eudine Schrader was elected president with Mrs. W. H. Koehler as vice president and Mrs. Shirley Kuhnel as secretary and treasurer. Members from David City York Seward Shelby and Utica attended and tours of Osceola Rest Manor followed the refreshments. The next meeting will be in York on April 14 with Mrs. Martha Abraham as host.
Miss Annette Hageman of Lincoln was honored at a bridal shower and get acquainted party at the Joe Fjell home on Saturday evening March 21. Hostesses Mrs. Fjell assisted by Mrs. Arthur Ekstrom and Mrs. Floyd Speirs served a blue and gold decorated buffet lunch from a cake stand over a century old. Out of town guests included Mrs. Rosalie Englehart of Saronville and several Walgreen relatives from Plainview Newman Grove and Lincoln. The couple, Duane Swanson and Miss Hageman, plan to marry in early May.

Betsy Biles and Wm. Biles Jr. honored. Mrs. Addie Wieseman took her daughter and grandchildren to Lincoln Saturday with one staying for a few days.
The Osceola Volunteer Fire Department held a Legion Club Rooms gathering to honor former members. Speakers included Dr C L LeMar and S B Fox as well as Byers and Courtney who share 25 years in the Nebraska Fire Association. The group plans an annual event. current chief is Mark Gustafson with Vic Cerny as president and Martin Roberts as secretary treasurer.
A mostly light snow period in the western state accompanied by moderate winds and minimal drifting. Some snow fell Sunday and again Tuesday night but warm temperatures melted it by morning. The 27th annual Rebekah District 14 session met Thursday March 25 at Shelby. Delegates from Polk Rising City Bellwood David City Shelby and Osceola attended. District President Lillian Sargent led the educational meeting and Grace Latham ran the school of instruction. Thirteen local Rebekah members were present. Next district gathering will be at Rising City with Mrs Ray Conrad of Osceola presidency.
Osceola voters will choose city officials and four candidates for the school board in the April 5 election held at the courthouse lobby. Mayoral candidate Fred Bond leads the slate with Marlin Johnson in the South Ward council race, and Ray Sedlak in the North Ward. Incumbents Ivar Oberg and Philip Nyberg face Charles Fischer and Harold Klingman for two school board seats.
The Hastings College Band on an 11 day 2000 mile tour of Nebraska Kansas and Colorado includes Osceola in its 22 community itinerary. A concert is set for Friday afternoon April 2 at 2 PM in the high school auditorium. Bryan Nelson son of Otto and Mrs Nelson of Osceola is a freshman in the college and a member of the group.
August W. Johnson born in Sweden on April 26 1871 died March 20 at 83. He moved to Osceola Nebraska as a young man and married May Houtz November 18 1936. Survived by widow three children Kermit Milwaukee Selah Rediger Milford Helen Burkey Rockford seven grandchildren one sister Apinnie Olson Rockford Thi and one brother Nels Silver Creek. Services were March 20 at 2:00 at the Funeral Home with interment at Stromsburg cemetery.
The public is invited to a high school concert next Wednesday April 7 at 8 00 p m at the auditorium. The program features entrants from the annual Albion music contest including soloists small groups instrumental and vocal performances and the band.

The ASC office has moved to a new location five doors south of Bush Drug Store and will operate 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Inspectors will review all farm stored wheat under price support during April in preparation for May or June delivery. A reseal option may be available if grain quality and storage conditions meet requirements. 1953 corn loan applicants have until May 31, 1954 to secure a loan or purchase agreement with a $1.54 per bushel loan rate, subject to sampling and processing time.
Funeral services for Agnes Dolly Lockard were held at Wesley Methodist Church in Shelby on Monday afternoon March 29, with Rev. Orin D. Watson officiating. She died March 22 in Los Angeles after a lingering illness at age 40. She was the daughter of John Lockard of Shelby, and survived by brothers Stanley of Los Angeles, Tom of Lafayette Louisiana, and Charles of Osceola.
OHS presents its annual senior class play This Night Beware on Tuesday April 6 at 8 00 pm in the high school auditorium. Miss Teters directs a spine chiller set at the Black Crow Inn on a stormy night with admission 50 35 and 25 cents. Earle E. Miller and Son of Osceola Nebraska were elected to membership in the American Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association at Chicago. They were among 14 Nebraska breeders chosen during the past month.
Governor Crosby announces the first Nebraska Youth Safety Congress to be held in Lincoln at the Capitol Building April 16 and 17. High schools across the state are invited to send representatives with chaperones, registration set at 4.50 covering banquet and luncheon, and safety leaders on the program.
About thirty Osceola chamber members met Monday evening at the legion rooms for their regular meeting. Musical numbers were given by Rev Homer Bollinger Robert Manley Marlin Johnson and Earl Miley.
