Track Season Opened Thursday at Polk with Tri Meet
The 1961 track season opened Thursday in a triangular meet at Polk. Polk won with 53 points, Osceola 30, Stromsburg 15. Wieseman won two events in photo finishes, 100 yard dash by four tenths, 220 by seven tenths. Mile and half mile races saw close finishes with Cotter of Osceola leading the mile, and Johnson and Gleim near the clock. Kropatsch set a pole vault record at ten feet three inches. Myron Ward Dies at 66 in Silver Creek
Myron Ward 66 retired mail carrier of Silver Creek died Saturday morning after a long illness at the home of his son in law Capt Richard L McCormick and daughter at Sandia Base New Mexico. Surviving children include Elden of North Platte and Mrs Vernon Payne of Denton Texas. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek with Rev L A Hansen officiating. burial followed in Silver Creek Cemetery. Ward was well known locally and graduated from Osceola High School.
