Polk County Recreation Assn bids open for clubhouse

Enthusiasm grows as Polk County Recreation Association announces bids open April 20 for a new clubhouse. membership target set at 150 to 180 as crucial support. Community actions at Osceola city park include irrigation pipe sprinklers, tree trimming to combat Dutch Elm Disease, and planting 30 young trees by Cadette Girl Scouts. Emerald Crown Vetch will line creek banks to curb erosion while lighting and restroom upgrades progress. Local officials acknowledge park improvements and thank volunteers and workers.

Polk County Cancer Crusade chaired by Perry and Sapp

With Cancer Control Month at hand the Polk County Gold Star crusade is led by co chairs Mrs Willard Perry Shelby and Mrs Perry Sapp. Precinct chairmen will appoint volunteers to call on residents and seek donations for continued life saving cancer education and early detection efforts. A trail ride by the Goldenrod Saddle Club near Osceola concluded with a Wiener roast at the Dick Watts home.

John M White longtime Silver Creek resident dies at 67

John M White 67 of Silver Creek died unexpectedly Monday after arrival at St Marys hospital Columbus. Born December 9 1899 in Soldier Kansas he moved to Silver Creek as a child. He married Myrtle Baker May 20 1922 in Omaha. He worked for Grosch Irrigation Co served as postmaster health inspector and village leader. Survived by wife two daughters twelve grandchildren a brother and three sisters. Four prisoners from the state penal complex will present a program at the High School Auditorium Thursday April 1:30 pm. public invited.

OHS Athletic Banquet Honors Broad Team Of Athletes

Osceola finish third among teams at Henderson relays on a cold day. Henderson won with 91 points, Polk 5, Osceola 39, Harvard 33, Sutton 31, Palmer 12.
