Osceola Chamber Plans Bicentennial Barbecue Event
Chamber members discussed the Osceola Bicentennial celebration agenda at the March meeting. Plans include a four day schedule with Youth Day, Senior Citizen Day, kite contest, alumni banquet, soap box derby, two parades, barbecue by chamber members, an evening pageant, and a joint church service to conclude. A May 14 city clean up day and dues collection were also noted. About 75 children joined Easter egg hunt amid cold weather.

MOD Walkathon Route Revealed
Saturday April 5 the MOD Walkathon gathers in Polk County with participants from Shelby Stromsburg Polk and Osceola at the fairgrounds. Walk begins 8 30 a m with check points at farms and centers leading to a 20 mile finish at Polk Community Hall. Lunch served along the route and a bus ride back to Osceola offered. A $25 bond from First National Bank of Osceola awaits the first walker at the finish. Chris Hayes receives a $250 Ak Sar Ben scholarship for 1974 75 as son of Don and Mrs Hayes.

News of the sick reports Merle Dawes transferred Sunday from Annie Jeffrey Hospital to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Albert Timm remains a patient at Vets Hospital in Lincoln. Rolland Ekstrom is out of intensive care at Clarkson Hospital.

4-H Calves Weighed and Identified at Fairgrounds
Polk County 4-H members used the new livestock facilities Saturday to weigh and tag 27 participants calves. Ninety market animals were weighed in about four hours, including 25 heifers at 588.4 pounds and 65 steers at 700 pounds. Only calves tagged Saturday are eligible for county fair beef classes.

Nelson Twins Named To All Conference Basketball Team
Four OHS basketball lettermen earned C Division All Conference honors as Goldenrod coaches named 12 players to two teams. Daryl and Doyle Nelson led the Bulldogs on the first team with Chet Graham and Jeff Johnston on the second. Stromsburg and Genoa have multiple selections with Ken Schutt Jeff Johnson Steve Peterson and Ron Jarecke contributing.

Earl L Butz named Arlee A Phillips of Hemingford to the Nebraska State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee replacing Stanley J Dobson of Curtis. Phillips, 43, farms 1,760 acres near Hemingford with his brother Lorence and has served on the Nebraska Wheat Advisory Committee and as secretary treasurer of Great Plains Wheat. He is a Farm Bureau member, commercial pilot, and recently toured the Far East with agricultural leaders. He joins Robert S Phillips on the committee along with Willard D Heyne.
