Bible Class Honors Rev and Mrs Littlewood

Members of the Park Street United Church Bible Class in Gtono Ontario hosted an April 25 1947 gathering to honor Rev S Littlewood and Mrs Littlewood after nine years of faithful service. The program featured hymns readings solos and a piano and brass ensemble along with gifts including a cedar chest and a leather briefcase.

Trout Takes Prize On Opening Day In Orono District

The opening trout season began May 1 with several brown trout reported. Ted Williams won the longest trout prize of 2 pounds 14 ounces for a 20.74 inch brown, donated by Dr. A F McKenzie. Other catches included a 4% pound brown trout by Bob Grey near Bowmanville and various smaller fish by local anglers. The report closes with church notes and farewell wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Littlewood.

Clothing Drive For Britain From May 8 To May 15

The Township of Clarke urges residents to donate clothing for British flood victims from May 8 to May 15. Local schools have organized collection points and aim to supply four million articles of clothing and non perishable foods. Volunteers seek men women and children garments to aid Britain in rationing and recovery.

Orono Citizen 100th Birthday Celebration Planned

Orono residents prepare to honor Mr. C. J. Hughson who turns 100 on June 12. A committee including C. W. Rolph and W. J. Riddell will accept donations for a purse of around one hundred dollars, no canvassing planned, with contributions urged soon.

Woman's Missionary Society Meeting Highlights World Focus

The May meeting chaired by Mrs. Delve discussed "One World on Our Doorstep" noting foreign students shaping future leaders. Speakers highlighted Indian scholarship student Padmanabhan at Ontario Agricultural College and Trinidadian students Kathryn Smith and Gladys Chattergoon. Plans for foreign aid libraries and WIMIS building projects in India and Canada were outlined.

Mrs Drummond spoke briefly on a Port Hope Branch meeting she attended. She described the Woman's Missionary Society as a wonderful organization after participating in several sessions. Delve offered the closing hymn and prayers.

Work To Commence On Ganaraska Forest Project

The Ganaraska Forest Project starts with a planting ceremony on May 14 at Lot 34 Concession 10 Hope Township. Hon. Harold Scott and Hon. Dana Porter will speak, with students and volunteers aiding planting as the Ganaraska River Conservation Authority leads conservation efforts and soil erosion prevention. Sixty Boy Scouts from multiple towns join on May 30 and June in a tree planting campaign under Arthur Jacks.

Smith Maynard Wedding in Newtonville ceremony

Bowmanville Hospital Fund Drive Seeks Township Support

A campaign led by Clarke Township aims to raise funds for a memorial hospital in Bowmanville. Clarke residents would contribute about 32000 if fully assessed, but only 8000 has been pledged by the Township Council. A house to house canvass is not planned, with volunteers collecting donations at local stores and residences to aid the hospital project.
