Col. Sidney Lambert Delivers Inspiring Address For W A Day

A meeting at Orono Town Hall on April 30 formed an organization to collect clothing for British flood victims. Reeve E H R Woodyard was appointed campaign chairman with J J Mellor as secretary. Representatives from the Women's Institute and the Women's Association outlined a plan assigning school sections for clothing collection.

Park St Church Service Highlights Pontifical Address

A large congregation attended Park St Church for an April 27 service under the Woman’s Association. Col. Sidney Lambert gave the sermon from Philippians I can do all things through Christ while noting WWI veteran perspectives. Gifts and a sewing cabinet were presented to Mrs Lit Genwood, Mr. Crabbe designed a lamp, and Mrs. M. De Tamblyn spoke.

Heathers Rebekah Lodge Welcomes D. C. President

On Thursday April 24 Heather Lodge in Orono hosted District Deputy President Mrs Gladys Borgan of Oshawa. Visiting dignitaries from Oshawa Cobourg Port Hope Whitby and Ganaraska Lodge attended. Local officers and members presented flowers and songs while fundraisers supported the Cancer Fund and an Oddfellowship drive was praised.

Fishermen Prepare For Trout Opening Day

Local anglers readied for opening day on May 1st after a layoff since September. Weather and cold water kept trout in winter quarters, so worms will be the bait of choice while guides inspect gear and hope for early catches along streams this Thursday morning.

Orono Women’s Institute Plans June Guelph Event

The April Orono Women's Institute met in the council chamber with Mrs. E. J. Hamm presiding. Miss Reid of the Canadian Red Cross spoke on good breakfasts, urging health education. a vocal solo and piano numbers followed. The group chartered a bus to attend the June 18 Guelph 50th anniversary celebration. Reservations were urged, and the next meeting will elect officers.

Orono Boy Scout Troop Revives Weekly Meetings

In Orono the Boy Scout movement is active again with eleven boys meeting weekly under Mr. J J Mellor. Seven are ready for investiture and two are en route to the second class as eager youths join the roll. Any boy twelve or older may enroll by attending meetings and studying hard, with scouting taking priority.

Newcastle Lions Club Formed In Ontario Community

Newcastle forms a new Lions Club to support charitable work for the underprivileged. Organized by Percy Hare with 22 members from Newcastle and nearby districts, the club is inaugurated under Bowmanville Lions Club. Executive: President Percy Hare, Vice Presidents Ken Werry Jim Taylor and Frank McMullen, Secretary Garnet Porter.

W C T U Honors Rev and Mrs Littlewood Before Departure

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union and Park Street United Church Adult Bible Class hosted a social to honor Rev and Mrs Littlewood. Local artists performed and gifts of nylon brushes and comb set were presented. The couple thanked attendees and recipients were named in a grateful address.

Orono Guides Host Dinner Bid Farewell To Mrs Littlewood

A Saturday evening at Capt. Armstrong’s home featured the Orono Girl Guides senior patrol bidding farewell to Mrs Littlewood and welcoming Mrs Frank of Bowmanville as district commissioner. Forty guests enjoyed a long dinner, badge presentations, and a program with piano solos and guide songs.

Mr and Mrs Rowland Farewell at Lake Shore Gathering

A large gathering at the home of Mr and Mrs W Adams Lake Shore on March 12 bid farewell to Mr and Mrs H Rowland prior to their move to Orono and Bills work in Toronto. Gifts included a end table magazine rack mirror and lamp while Bills cuff links and studs were given.
