Sunday chapel service at State Hospital cites unity of prayer and Russia discussion by Rev. Stanard Dow Butler. Reports include graduations, staff changes, patients and visitors, vacation absences, and a hospital carnival train from Middletown.
Thirty one residents and property owners on Houston Avenue asked the Common Council to repair the avenue section between Academy and Sprague. Alderman Cox reported the stretch was in very bad condition and the matter was referred to the street committee for investigation. A six pastor delegation urged continued 9 pm street bell tolls for safety, while avoiding disturbances to church services. An invitation from the Italian celebration committee for July 4 was accepted by the council.
The Nev Dr John Brownlee Voorhees of Hartford Conn a wounded Congregationalist pastor who recently had his leg shattered by a shell while serving in Toul northwest front he was a member of Ratgers quartet and stayed in Middletown years ago He and the quartet were entertained by Dr T D Mill a a Bulgera graduate and friend of Rev Voorhees The wounded pastor is remembered here by several persons.
Citizens urged to bring photographs of soldiers to the Times-Press office before artist J. Wesley Hirceao leaves on vacation in early July to ensure the work is completed promptly.
Prof Charles Rutenber died in Dartington Rhode Island Sunday. His body was brought to Newburgh for interment with services held at Zillig Burn funeral chapel on Montmorency Avenue. Rutenber, a well respected musician in the area, was brother to Walker Rutenber and son of the late Mr Ratenber. He was born in Newburgh.
A farewell dinner honored manager G A Robert at Michell Jam on Monday evening in Middietown. Resident manager A Roderia of the Station and Show Shop attended before Mr Robert departed for Amsterdam to report for duty after being called to the colera. The event was hosted by proprietor Mitchell, with a select group of intimate friends remarking on the dinner and service.
The Orange County Agricultural Society managers met at city hall under Vice-President John N Bradley after the death of President Augustus Denniston.
