Bucket Brigade at High View Saves a House
Fire damaged the roof and ceilings of the Godfrey home at High View but neighbors and summer residents formed a bucket brigade to save the dwelling. Charles Godfrey and his family were awakened around 11 pm by travelers from Bennett's Hotel Bloomingburg who notified them. George Davison of Bloomingburg helped on the roof while others from Bloomingburg joined, and the fire was brought under control after about an hour. The 1871 Godfrey house, on the large Godfrey farm, suffered roof and attic damage and loss of antique furniture and gowns. insurance is reported on the home.
