The Erie railroad at Newburgh Junction two miles west of Arden enlarges yard facilities to handle freight growth. A new engine Y will aid westbound moves delivering cars to the Newburgh branch. Upgrades over two months nearing completion aim to storage about 250 freight cars and allow Arden lineups for local points as far west as Middletown.
Hoey and Gray of Newburgh sold their stock of dry goods and business at 80 Water Street corner of Third Street. I R Gilet, formerly manager at Samuel Beskin’s store, will continue the business at the same location. Inventory is being taken and the store will reopen in a few days. Joseph Le Tarte retired this week, the firm previously being Heer La Tarte and Gray.
The Young Ladies Musical Club met Thursday at Mrs Hany D Goulds Lenox home on Montgomery street. The program featured violin solo Slave by Mendelssohn piano solo Song Without Words and Serenade by Mendelssohn vocal solos Rest in the Lord and others plus a piano piece Captico Brillant. Refreshments followed.
Frences E Willard memorial service held at the WOC TU 2002. Mrs. Whittaker led songs and readings. speakers included Mrs. Pryet and Mrs. Stenene. The event featured solos and a closing with congregational prayers and a benediction.
Anton Castelli, a Smyrna bound fruit dealer arriving in New York on December 6, reported his 16 year old Greek nanny Stamatis Souloutzog missing with jewelry valued over 300 dollars. The girl was found with an unknown man in Manhattan and later cornered by police as investigators traced her arrival from a Greek community to Westtown. Magistrate Castelli ceded the case to the Children's Society for deportation steps.
Maurice C. Ashler and Dr. Clara Barrus of the State Hospital plan a three month western journey starting Saturday from Middletown. They will join a party led by Icke Burt Troughs in San Francisco to visit the Petrified Forests with John Muir and then proceed to Grand Canyon. Some companions may go to Honolulu after brief California stops.
