Jonn Murphy, Lagman for the O and W railroad, was instantly killed around 8:15 am Saturday at the Wisner Avenue crossing. A string of seven freight cars pushed by engine 86 struck him in the center of the crossing. The switch engine, under Engineer H Herman and Conductor E J Madden, had pulled from coal yard track No. 2.
A railroad accident on the Pine Bush line left Mr. Murphy dead after being struck by a passing car. The engineer and flagman differed on whether Murphy moved into the track. coroner and undertaker took charge. Murphy, 58, formerly with Western & Atlantic, leaves a large family with services to be announced.
Cincinnati Ohio December 6 1913. Edwards represents local union No 397 and will attend a convention of the Brotherhood of Painters and Papists.
A New Haven Railroad dispatch reports steps to extend the New York and Westchester line through Westchester to connect with the Poughkeepsie Bridge system. The move would create a large through system into New York City, with broader access for Ontario & Western and Norwich freight, and potential through passenger trains to Grand Central. Local lodge officers were elected, including Knights of Pythias leaders and auxiliary officials, with installations planned for January.
The Appellate Division assigns justices for the Ninth Judicial District including Orange County. Justice Morschauser presides in February Goshen, Justice Tompkins in May Newburgh, Justice Keogh in October Goshen, Justice Mills in November Newburgh. Special terms occur in Newburgh on the first and third Saturdays monthly. Tompkins holds January March May July October December terms. Morschauser holds February April June September November terms. Tompkins also holds Goshen special terms on the second Saturdays of April June and November.
A new car built at the Wallkill Transit Company shops entered service on the city line Saturday. Constructed from two company cars, the remodeled vehicle features air brakes and modern equipment. It is the longest car on the system and will seat 50 passengers.
Five shares of Orange County Trust were sold at Hotel Bowling for ten dollars each, executor George W. Thomas Ware overseeing the sale. Eugene chaired the event. The deal is believed to be the highest price ever paid in Orange County for bank stock.
The Mery Maids and Matrons were entertained at the home of Miss Sadie Sitter on Linden avenue Friday afternoon. The prize winners of the quiz were Mrs. $4 ares first prize and Miss Anna Howland second prize. Refreshments were served. The next meeting was with Mrs. Thomas Rogers at Lenox Mace.
Nearly twenty years after their first marriage, Jesse Exnor and Miss Jennie Brown renewed their vows in Cornwall. Exnor had left town shortly after the wedding but returned on Thursday and rekindled the union, now living together again.

NeHie Minerva Eilenberger daughter of Mr and Mrs John R Eilenberger of this city died Thursday evening at Alamo Sanatorium Alamogordo New Mexico She was born November 12 1890 and was a Senior Class member in 1910 She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church and Y B S C E She is survived by parents and two brothers Charles and John Funeral will be held at the parents home 38 Grand afternoon at 2 o'clock pallbearers from Class of 1919 chosen officials to accompany remains to last resting place.
The funeral of Mrs Louisa A Bezets Hagen was held Saturday afternoon at 6 Wilcox Avenue, with large attendance. Rev Francis S Smithers led the Grace Church service before the body was laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery beside relatives and friends. Pallbearers included Thomas Racers, Fred Rogers, Wickham W Foung, A C NX Thompson, Clifford Oxen, and Fred N Bord.
Secretary Z Tevaicox of the Yo MLC has been MI and confined to his Chester home for three weeks with a thoracic ailment. He is advised to seek a milder climate for the winter months.
About 200 Elks and guests gathered at Elks Homestead on South Street for Middletown Lodge 1097 B P O Elks social session. President Blaney led the program with songs and stories by O'Brien Rice Payne and a strong quartet. The event ended at midnight with praise for the committee and a note of lasting enjoyment.
A session of the Christian Endeavor Society of the First Presbyterian Church featured a lively game of Authors. In the church lecture room Friday night each participant received thirty slips bearing authors’ names and tried to collect a complete set by exchanging slips. The well attended event was aided by refreshments arranged by Miss Alice Howell and committee members including Miss Eleanor Boyes Pearl Beyes Harriet Morehouse Helen Boyd Helen McBarnes and Leander Shelley.
The 28 acre farm on the state road to Pine Rush near Walden has been sold to Richard A. Hasher of Brooklyn, who will occupy the property. The transaction was conducted through Richard R. Plam of Brooklyn, in conjunction with local editor George W. Jamison of Pisce Bes.

The Sullivan county Supreme Court calendar for December lists grand jury cases including Cyrus R. Benton of Liberty charged with killing his wife George Rose of Walton charged with second degree larceny and Anthony Sadaitus of Wurtsboro charged with grand larceny. The civil calendar holds 180 cases, reduced to 149 after duplicates. Judge Betts presides, with one week of court planned and a Board of Supervisors session week of Dec 13.
The Scholastic team of Matteawan faced the Asylums in Amusement Hall with a 46 to 22 loss after a competitive scrubs game. Brunettes beat Blondes 16 to 8 in the girls contest as Morgan Crilter Arhborn and others lined up for the Asylums and scrubs. Refreshments and dancing followed the games, with next Friday set for Lenox Tompkins Hose of Matteawan vs Asylumes.

Ex Sheriff Avery of Monticello slipped Tuesday while carrying ashes, fell and struck his back on a hard spot, breaking two ribs. The injury is serious but not life threatening. he is being kept at home for treatment.

William Pomeroy aged 14 drowned in a gunshot incident and died at Thrall Hospital Friday night the wound sustained in the knee while he was transported by Dr Maier from Rove. The body was returned to Cook's Falix home Saturday by Ut Geraker Corneliza. The column notes a distressing miss of details in the newspaper.
