Five hundred farmers and an equal number of bankers congressmen and senators from every cotton state met in Montgomery to declare cotton worth 15 cents a pound and to favor holding cotton until that price is reached. The group backed warehouse deposits and bonded warehouses to finance crops and urged state legislatures to adopt collateral systems. Thomas H Carter Dies After Twenty-Two Years in National Life
former United States Senator Thomas Henry Carter of Montana dies at 57 from lung-related illness at his Baltimore home. Born in Ohio and long tied to national politics, he led the Republican national committee, chaired the American section of the International Joint Commission, and served as Montana’s first Republican representative and U S senator. He is survived by his wife and sons at Georgetown University. Interment will be at Mount Olive cemetery.
