Bernardo Yorba Middle School dominates California History Day wins
Bernardo Yorba Middle School in California produced the state winners in History Day sponsored by National and State Constitutional Rights Foundation and the California Department of Education. Under retired teacher Virginia Gannaway and staff, 28 students won at school level, with Michele and Nikki Wiseman and Jocelyn Smith advancing to state competition. Their group Web site on Japanese internment titled The Era of Shame won first place in California and earned an American Civil Liberties Union cash award. They did not advance to nationals as the national event lacks a group site category.
