Mr. T. G. Stump, working in Tennessee, spent the week end with his family here, sharing time together during a short stay and returning to his duties afterward.
Misses Margaret Rock Betty Crawford and Dorothy Spencer hosted a Christmas party at their grandmother Mrs J R Crawford home Saturday evening. The reception room glowed with greens and colors as dancing games and refreshments followed. The hostesses were helped by Mrs Carl Rock and Miss Elizabeth Crawford and Miss Mabel Crawford. Miss Nannie Sue Sandlin entertained twelve intimate friends on Tuesday with a four course luncheon honoring Miss Louise Preas of Johnson City visiting her sister Mrs George Moore and Miss Mary Margaret Johnson home from Salem Academy. A Yuletide theme shaped the event with poinsettias cherries holly and red tapers on the clung lace luncheon board.
Mrs S L Noblitt of Old Fort entertained friends Friday night in honor of her niece Miss Jessie Nichols of Marion. Several games were played and refreshments served including hot chocolate cake candy and nuts. attendees included Elva Noblitt Ruby Arrington Jennie Mae Noblitt Rilda Williams Jessie Nichols B T Nichols Lester Jordan Carlyle Nesbit Marvin Davis.
Miss Carolyn McIntosh entertained the younger set at her Main Street home on Christmas night with bridge and dancing. The yuletide theme appeared in decorations and the refreshments included punch and an ice course.
A party in honor of Miss Louise Preas of Johnson City was held Saturday night at Mrs. Geo. Moore’s home. Christmas greens decorated the rooms. Guests enjoyed dancing and bridge followed by refreshments.
Mr and Mrs George Sandlin entertained Friday night with four tables of bridge in honor of Mr and Mrs George Moore. High score and guest prize went to Mrs George Moore while low score prize was drawn by Mrs Hart Taylor. A salad and sweet course followed, served by the hostess with help from Mrs P H Mashburn Mrs Hart Taylor and Miss Maude Craw.
The Woman's Club will meet Friday afternoon in the Sandlin building to feature the welfare program. Other business will be discussed. Members are urged to attend and bring money for Christmas seals and market post cards. George Allison and E. A. Allison of Pickens South Carolina were visitors in Old Fort last week.
A busy digest lists numerous visitors and hosts around Old Fort and nearby towns. Miss Genevieve Crawford and many others spend holidays with families in Tallahassee Raleigh Greensboro Marion Asheville and Narrows while university students and instructors visit kin across North Carolina and Virginia. The notes also mention a postponed church pageant and several locals traveling to Marion Pickens and Johnstown for gatherings and work.
Misses Nelle Allison and Alwyn Steppe of Asheville Normal College are spending holidays with relatives in Old Fort. Miss Ella Belle McConnell of Asheville visited Mrs. Chas Steppe on Christmas Day. Mr and Mrs John Jordan and their children Mary Margaret and Lester returned home after spending Christmas with Mrs Maggie Allen in Asheville.
James Lutz, a 4-H club boy from Newton Route 4 in Catawba County, produced 124.6 bushels of corn and won 79 in premiums this year. County agent J Wade Hendricks reports. Governor Gardner urges North Carolina farmers to lead toward self sufficiency in 1931.
