Yuletide Gaities End as Students Return to Colleges

The holiday season concluded with social events for the young set before they resume studies at various institutions. Watch Party Honoring Old Fort High Senior Class

Mr and Mrs Geo Sandlin hosted a watch party Wednesday for Old Fort High School seniors. The guest list included all teachers town school board members and wives plus other officials. Prizes were awarded in games with Jessica Silver tying for a fourth prize with Principal S B Smithey and Chas Lytle winning for the boys.

Miss Helen Nesbitt entertained friends Wednesday evening at her New Fort home with a holly decorated setting. Cards were the main feature and refreshments of fruit punch, cake, and nuts were served with help from Mrs. Nesbitt.

Fire Burns Home Near Old Fort

Fire destroyed the frame residence of George Thomasson about 2 o'clock Friday morning. The house had six rooms and contained all furnishings and clothing of the occupants, all of which were consumed. No one was injured.

Fire Department Holds Annual New Year Ball

The Old Fort Fire Department hosted its annual New Year’s Eve ball at the Sandlin building. A large crowd enjoyed a social evening as the department’s dance marked one of its most successful in recent years, bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new with lively music.

Mrs Johnson Hosts Farewell Party For Daughter

Mrs J B Johnson hosted a Friday afternoon gathering for nineteen children to bid Mary Margaret farewell before she leaves Winston-Salem to resume studies at Salem Academy after holiday visits. Festive decorations, games and contests framed the event. Nannie Sue Sandlin won the first prize, while Alice Laughridge Laurene LeFevre Julia Bistline and Pauline Gosorn shared the second prize. Tea and salad were served by the hostess with help from Mrs Reid and Miss Mary Burgin.

Old Fort Woman's Club Discusses Community Aid Plans

The Old Fort Woman's Club met in the Sandlin building with president Mrs. G. W. Sandlin leading. They discussed aiding the cared for in the community, planning grocery store barrels for help, a warm lunch program for undernourished children, and a committee to urge mayoral action. Coal and vegetables donated to support the kitchen, with strong local backing.

New Year Party Celebrated at Miss Dula Home

College students gathered at Miss Gertrude Dula's house on Wednesday evening to welcome the New Year with a watch party. The event featured dancing and bridge, followed by refreshments late in the night. Epworth League Social At Miss Noblitt's Home

Thirty five members of the Epworth League of the Methodist Church South gathered at the home of Miss Annie Bell Noblitt for a social evening. The house featured potted flowers and guests enjoyed games followed by hot chocolate sandwiches cake and candy. Invited were Rev J L Rayle and his wife.
