A dramatic jailbreak in Nelson County Kentucky frees five murderers, and a Travis County Texas shootout leaves two thieves dead and one mortally wounded. A Saginaw County Michigan arson murder case reveals conspiracy between Mrs Smith and her brother-in-law to kill for property, with grisly scene and testimonies.
On December 18 Wade Hampton and Governor Chamberlain exchanged notes demanding and denying immediate delivery of the great seal, state offices, and appurtenances. The exchange ends with Chamberlain refusing Hampton’s demand. The following days report a new U.S. Senator ballot, Butler’s election, Senate adjournment plans, and tax measures including a seventeen mill levy and proposed tax certificates.
A poor county resident Daniel Jennings in Galena Ill discovers his long missing father has died leaving about 80 000 for him as sole heir. An aunt then shares 20 000 among eight heirs including Jennings, turning a lifetimes poverty into sudden wealth and provoking astonishment and joy.
