James Heap a Yorkshire schoolmaster who taught at Coltersdale and walked daily from his home near Headley to the school despite harsh weather. From 1822 to 1867 he missed no day, totaling 2,292 weeks and over 110000 miles, with 5712 more miles added by Sunday teaching. He lived to receive news of a planned annuity increase.
General Crook's force left Buffalo Springs on the 6th and arrived at North Fork on the 9th and camped. A supply train departs today to fetch rations and forage, the march route described as very bad.
